Learned a lesson about Dollar Store

A few weeks ago, I used up the last of my bottle of Fuller Brush Floor Cleaner. It has done such a good job on my kitchen floor. I emailed Fuller Brush because I could not find any of the product. They stated they no longer make it.

So last week I grabbed a bottle of floor cleaner my husband had bought. It has been sitting in the cabinet awhile and I never used it because I never heard of the brand. Well, it did a nice job of cleaning the kitchen floor.

After us living in the house all week the floor looked a mess. Also my husband takes the dog for walks about every 1/2 hour. I pulled out the floor cleaner my husband bought. I noticed it was the Dollar Tree floor cleaner. I figured I would use it. I would only be cleaning the floor again in a few days.

Well, I was very pleased. The water was just as dirty as when I washed the floor with name brand cleaners. I guess I was just a name brand snob. I really think that the Dollar store cleaner did just as good of a job as every name brand I have used.

I use Dollar General brand for some of cleaning products.  Their gel dishwasher soap, their gel drain cleaner.  Those two products work better than the name brands in my opinion.  Also their oven cleaner, bathroom cleaner.

Dollar General's food brand Clover Valley is just as good as a lot of name brands.  I buy it a lot.

@Imaoldhippie

I bought a few Clover Valley food items for the first time a few weeks ago. My local grocery was bare so I ran in the DG. Anyway, all the foods I purchased were fine. 👍

Re: Learned a lesson about Dollar Store

What are the Dollar Stores like in your area?    I've seen YouTube videos of people shopping at their local Dollar Store or Dollar General and those stores are really nice.

Here in our area we only have the Dollar Store and honestly most of them are really just junky.   The stores are dirty and the items are just thrown about.  I've walked into a few of them and immediately walked out.

I don't expect them to look like Nordstrom but they should at least look clean and be somewhat orderly.    I'm sure the fault lies with management and ownership.   I guess since the profit margin isn't as high as say a supermarket they aren't going to put a lot of time or effort into their stores.   That is such a shame because like I said I've seen many videos of these stores in other states and those stores would rival any Target or Walmart.

Re: Learned a lesson about Dollar Store

I am not big on shopping, and mainly limit my in person spending to Kroger, IGA, CVS and Dollar General.

I enjoy shopping at DG; milk, bread, pop, laundry detergent, paper products, greeting cards, holiday candy are just some of what I buy there.   I actually got a little excited at finding powdered Ajax and Oxydol detergent there a year or more ago.

Re: Learned a lesson about Dollar Store

I do believe the Long Island store I miss most during these months I spend in Florida is the Dollar Tree in my neighborhood.  It occupies a space where once CVS had a very nice store, so it's big, but even more important, it's clean, it's as well organized as any good supermarket, and yes, lots of the products on the shelves work every bit as well as their brand name counterparts.  Doesn't hurt that I can easily walk there, too.

I don't mind that I have to drive to Dollar Tree in this neighborhood, but I do mind that it's so much smaller, has so many fewer choices, and most of all is close to never organized so that finding what they do sell is at all easy.

There is a second DT that's a much longer drive that's sort of worth the drive -  just wish it were truly worth it.  I go only when I have something else to do in that area, certainly not now.   (I know, I know -  those of us who live in densely populated areas are spoiled by lots of nearby shopping.)

I like DG's Totally Awesome spray cleaner better than Mr. Clean Clean Freak. The TA is getting low, as you can imagine, so eventually I will be using CF again.

DG's oven cleaner in the yellow can looks just like Easy Off. Same ingredients. Great for use on enameled cast iron pots & pans when nothing else works.

In the past I used to buy the very best SS cleaner from The Dollar Tree. It really has been the best I've ever used. They stopped carrying it years ago. Haven't found anything to compare.

My cousin has some classic cars and he will only use Sprayway Glass Cleaner. So I saw Sprayway at Sam's and bought it. I was very pleased with it not streaking and doing a nice job on the windows.

I saw Sprayway Stainless Steel Cleaner and bought it. I have not seen it lately in Sam's. So not sure why. If Sprayway no longer makes it or that one Sam's no longer carries it.
