Re: LIVING ROOM IN A MODERN HOUSE

I love this house!

I tend to decorate with a lot of chess pieces and artichokes.

Hey, I really like that unique combination, @faeriemoon !

I'd be interested in knowing, do you have oversize chess pieces, or reasonable approximations of them; or regular chess pieces that you strew around in a decorative way, like perhaps in a bowl?

Wondering if your artichokes are mainly finials-- I've seen some striking finials, end pieces etc., in the shape of fanciful artichokes....

Or maybe you have them in patterns on textiles....

[ Edited ]

I love the way the fireplace is done with the greenery and that bow (swoon!).   My fireplace is in a less formal room, but I can do the greenery part.  May try that next year.

Too bad there wasn't somewhere else in the room for the Christmas tree.  It seems to be looming over the couch.  I think the fireplace is dressed up enough, they could even add ornaments to the swag (is that what you call the thicker part of the garland?) and it could take the place of a tree!

ETA:  First year I did paper whites in soil, usually do them in pebbles and get them drunk with vodka early enough.

Mine are tall and listing here and there, have to keep straightening them up.   Theirs look great!

Re: LIVING ROOM IN A MODERN HOUSE

The only thing I really care for here is the beautiful Christmas tree, the built-ins on either side of the fireplace and those hurricane lanterns.  The rest of it is just meh and, for whatever reason, the fireplace surround is just obnoxious and ugly.

The lines in this room are still overly symmetrical, creating a stagnant composition where the eye has no natural flow or movement.
