Re: Kitchens with open shelving

Hi @Mominohio.  I really can't speak firsthand as I don'the have drawers that have been designed specifically to hold pots and pans.  I do, however, believe that a designer could maximize space in very unique ways--ways that we would have never thought of.

I have three very wide lower cabinets that only have a half shelf.  That sounds as if it is wasted space, but in reality it does away with the "what is way in the back on the bottom shelf that I can't see?"  And it allows for taller items to be stored.  For instance, I live in an open concept home and like to keep my island and all counters as uncluttered as possible.  I can easily store my infrequently used Kitchenaid mixer in these cabinets as well as my pots and pans and see ALL of them.

I have a pantry in my kitchen that will be our next project.  I am a bit of an organizational freak, so I know where everything is stored on those shelves. On the other hand, my husband gets frustrated trying to find something and wants pull out shelving installed so we can readily see the contents of each shelf.

I hope sometime in the not too distant future you will get the kitchen of your dreams.  In the meantime, it'seems a good idea to educate yourself on all the new and creative enhancements to make a wonderfully functional kitchen.  And it is fun!
