I have been trying to find a plain rectangular kitchen / dining table for a long time. I wanted a lighter wood but unfortunately I am not stylish because all the tables I find are dark wood. Then I thought about making it unique, perhaps finding a table at a thrift store, sanding it down then stenciling the top or maybe even decoupage it. Does anyone decoupage anymore? Well, after about 6 months of not finding a table, I am about ready to try to make one.
Here's my thought. What if I purchased a singe sheet of wood. It could be plywood finished on both sides or even mdf. Then since it's going to be painted, it wouldn't really matter what kind of wood it was. Add to that, the stenciling or decoupage.... what do you all think? Am I totally crazy in this idea? Oh, I suppose I should add that if I decoupage it, it would be different National Geographic maps. Obviously this is not a formal dining area.
Has anyone ever done this before and do you know if it's possible?
