Does every single person who "upgrades" their kitchen from its original state buy stainless steel appliances? I watch a lot of HGTV and read a lot of magazines. No matter what cabinets people choose, or flooring, they are always advised to buy Stainless Steel appliances (stove, refrigerator and dishwasher) and granite countertops.

Then, I see things where people are told not to "over" upgrade and price yourself out of the market for where you live. So, which is it?

Does every single person out there looking to buy a house expect to move into a kitchen fit for Wolfgang or Emeril or Tyler Florence? Really????

It seems that the only thing that sells nowadays are homes that look like they are magazine shoots "AFTER" pictures. I am always amazed when I see those shows and someone says "I hate that cookware." or "I don't like that toaster, coffee pot, etc." - YOU ARE NOT BUYING THE POTS & PANS!!!!!!! You are buying the house.

Help me understand. In a few years, we plan to do our kitchen (it really needs it). I am thinking of getting a stainless steel stove, because that is the one we have visited and loved so much. We just got our dishwasher (it's white) and our fridge is just too darn small for our family (so, I guess we will go stainless there too). We don't intend to move anytime soon, but we want to do it right.
