What can you do with a trash can in the kitchen when you dont have a place to put it that cant be seen?  I have it sitting out but it looks  ""trashy"" Smiley Happy

I dont like it to be on display for anyone that comes in.

I used to have a kitchen cupboard to put it in where it fit and now I dont in the new place. Cupboards have other things in them.

@FlowerBear  In my previous kitchen, I had a rack on the inside the a door under the sink which held a plastic bag for garbage.

Re: Kitchen Trash Can

[ Edited ]

I know so many kitchens with the trash can sitting out looking horrible. I don't understand why there was not a place made for them when they built the house?

We had a trash compactor which we hated so we took it out & installed one of those roll out trash cans. It looks just like one of our cabinets. When you open the door the trash can comes out.

Out of sight out of mind.

If I did not have a place to hide mine I would buy one of those stainless steel trash cans that opens automatically.

@FlowerBear  Invest in a stainless steel can and it will look a lot better when set out.  I own one and it sits out.

Just replaced an old Rubbermaid can with this one from Home Depot. Found it on

clearance a month ago or so. It was around $50 reduced, compared to the Simple

Human I first bought from Lowes that was $95 but was too large for the small space       I  have open.

You might have to try one or more that is perfect for you. First time that I ever returned

@FlowerBear:   This is at Sam's Club and would very nice in your kitchen:

Nine Stars Sensor Trash Can Set - Stainless Steel - 13.2 gal. / 2.1 gal.

 Sensor type

I have this exact one (the large one) and have had it for quite a few years.   It looks fine, works well, and is easy.   It's perfectly sized for 'tall kitchen can' bags.

I got mine on Amazon.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and ordered a slide out bracket for the cabinet under my kitchen sink... it slides out and holds a 13 gallon trash bin.... works really nice and I don't have to keep looking at a can sitting in the way...

I previously had one sitting in my pantry, but was always moving it out of the way... this sliding one works so much better and it didn't cost an arm and a leg...

I have no cabinet or closet space in my small kitchen for a trash can, so I have no choice. I bought a stainless steel 13-gallon trash can with an automatic lid. I'm very happy with it, and definitely don't feel bad about having it sit at the end of the work island. Yes, they're a little more expensive but they look nice. Mine is the same as the one Three Cees posted. Check out Lowe's, BB&B, Walmart, Target - any of those stores carry them.

I've left mine out for years.  For some reason the fact that I use a large laundry hamper for my trash can drives my son-in-law crazy!  Ha!

But now my cat (Bill) has decided to go trash diving (literally diving into it)...It's very large but he manages to pull/knock it over.  It's dangerous on many levels.  So I put cases of sodas around it and up against the cabinet.

Just this morning I found him IN the trash!  I ordered that one QVC had on their show the other day but I suspect it's way, way too small for me.

Since I've finally starting recycling everything in the world (don't ask)...I don't have much trash these days.

I like using large (very large) plastic bags because I know the plastic doesn't recycle and (real reason) my neighbors push down my trash can to be picked up.  I don't want my neighbors to do it more than once a week.

I wish I had an answer for you.  I'll let you know about this QVC trash can...but it will probably end up being a recycling can....I don't change habits very easily.

I have a Rubbermaid rectangular trash can under my kitchen sink.  It's on one side, cleaning products on the other.

Fits perfectly, holds a lot.
