Just finished going through an old box of saved papers

I mean 2000-2005. Checked them out as I did the disposal of, and whew am I tired. I was using the blackout roller thingies and got tired of that and went to the shredder. So that's 2 boxes I've gone through now.

The next one will wait until next year, to be on the safe side. But I am going to get rid of more at the end of each year and not pack so much away, for the "just in case". I have the lists of what to keep for 7/10 yrs. And it's not all I have in those boxes.

Had to get rid of old pamphlets, and booklets etc., that are so outdated.

This downsizing is a killer project. Keeps me off the streets. It was hot so in A/C today felt good. But I'm tired.

If these papers are not tax information or receipts, why are you going through it?  If they are old newspapers or pamplets, I would just toss all of it.

I wait too long in between and usually overheat the darn thing just as you get into the zone and have a rhythm going!

I consider myself fortunate to live in the country, because we burn our 'important papers', and don't have to mess with a shredder or the blackout roller thing.

I remember back in the day, we lived in town and all that stuff had to go in the trash (before the days of recycling in this area). I used to sit with scissors and cut up those things while watching my favorite evening shows.

Re: Just finished going through an old box of saved papers

I went through tons of pictures in boxes. I got them all organized and most in albums.....took 3 days!

I have photos of my great grandparents and relatives from the 'old country' with no names or any info on them. I have no idea who these people are and anyone who would know is dead. I am debating whether to keep them or not...

I have a way of accumulating assorted papers too.  I'd never just pitch the stack w/o looking them over, just to make sure something I really wanted to keep wasn't mixed in.  Truth be told, the majority of the time it's 95% garbage.  I've saved all my cards from DH and the kids over the years and have them in a couple of bins.  Fortunuately, for me, the new bed we just bought has a platform rather than a traditional bed frame.  The platform  is 14" tall and has all kinds of storage space underneath for those bins.
