I see the OP is from Michigan. There was a news story that the Mackinac Bridge was closed because of a pile up in white-out conditions. I don't know how often that happens because it's not like you can take another route.

I hear you. Yesterday I was going upstairs and thought it felt a bit cold up there. Sure enough my heat was not working. The pipes in the second zone were frozen somewhere in there. The oil people were in the basement from 10:30 pm to 2 am and could not get it going. We slept with a space heater last night. All I did today was just keep the heater up to 85 degrees and hoped it would heat. At 12 noon today it worked and we got the heat back. Moral of the story---don't turn your zones down too low to save oil---you may freeze pipes and have to spend the money on repairs! Arg---I hate Winter!

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about people who live in Upstate New York or New England...

Forget Rednecks .... If someone in a Home Depot store offers ...you assistance and they don't work there, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Upstate New York or New England. If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you live in Upstate New York or New England.

If Vacation means going anywhere south of New York City for the weekend, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you measure distance in hours, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you live in Upstate New York or New England .

If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day and back again, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you install security lights on your house and garage but leave both unlocked, you live in Upstate New York or New England.

If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in Upstate New York or New England .

If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in Upstate New York or New England .

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you find 10 degrees 'a little chilly', you live in Upstate New York or New England .

If there's a Dunkin Donuts on every corner, you live in Upstate New York or New England . If you think everyone else has a funny accent, you live in Upstate New York or New England .

Last weekend we were in the process of replacing our glass door shower. My dh removed and carried out the first door to set out at the curb for our garbage pick up. I waited for him at our front door when he was carrying down the second door. As I held the door open for him, as soon as the second door hit the cold air it shattered into a million pieces!!! All over our front porch, some of it came into my foyer. I was on my hands and knees trying to find every last piece. We have kitties and I surely didn't want one of them stepping on one! That was the oddest thing! The doors weren't wet. And why only one of the doors broke is strange.

Some moron decided he wanted to turn around and attempted to make a u-turn on the bridge!
