I agree at seeing a "snippet" or the whole room makes a difference in my opinion. When I saw the first snippet I wasn't crazy about it - then I saw the whole picture and didn't think it so bad at all.

 

Regarding the blue room. When I redid my kitchen in my other house, it was 600 square feet when we were done. I happen to love blue so I painted the walls navy blue (and it had to be the "right" navy blue, lol). My counter tops/12' island were white corian and they put a matching blue strip in the middle of the "overhang" piece so it would not be so stark.

 

Having those dark walls made it comfy & warm because during the day I had many large windows for natural light and at night, we had a cathedral ceiling with plenty of recessed lighting.

 

I couldn't picture my old kitchen any other way. It just worked.
