I've never understood the mass appeal of open-concept living.

When I live with other people, I want to go and hide from them from time-to-time.

I never understood that concept of open kitchen.

Why would I want to cook fish or clean counters or run dishwasher in my living room??

There was a reason that doors and walls were invented.

P.S. waiting for a few years when we will have the ""open bathroom"" concept.

I don't know. I love my open kitchen and can't really imagine going back to a closed kitchen again. For me, it's more about the feeling of openness than for entertaining (don't do it often enough for that to matter) or keeping an eye on the kids.

Gee I sure hope so. Then my house built in 1968 won't be so out of style when we want to sell it in a couple of years. The ""new"" house we will move to is also older (early 1990s) and also has a non-open style kitchen. Interesting though that everyone always migrates to the kitchen regardless of size or openess!

I'm not a fan of the open concept. When I bought my current home, that was all that was on the market. I'm thankful I have a partial wall between the kitchen and great room.

Just what I need........a Design Psychologist.

I love the open design. Being able to chat with those at the table while making coffee or Sunday breakfast.

When I want peace I can head for my bedroom and shut the door.

Hope so. We lived with one for years and now we're in a cozy little beach cottage with old-fashioned walls between rooms and I like it so much better.

It would be nice if society would embrace the concept of different strokes for different folks...instead of acting like one design concept is "out" and another is "in"...and everybody has to follow that train of thought if they want to be able to sell their home.

I guess that wouldn't benefit the people who do remodeling work, or the people who sell appliances and furniture, or the people who do interior design though.
