I am having the planking floor installed on house being built. It is in different shades of gray with a little brown. Do you think I should go with a linen type of walls since my furniture is brown and some black. Or would it look better with a light gray?

i am trying to get prepared as this will be an issue for me. I am thinking no color all the same. Thank you for your thoughts.

I would go with the light grey or a white with grey base. Linen would only work if you had a cool undertone in it and not a yellow base. It might conflict with your floors and furniture. Hope this helps you.

@Elom

I am replacing all the tiles in my home with all plank style.  I'll be doing 💃💃💃 in about 2 weeks!!!

I chose a "linen" because i felt going with a light neutral color if i changed my color scheme it was always going to be the biggest presence in the room.  I redid my kitchen with coastal cream cabinets from Innovations.

This is the tile: (looks grey in pic but light cream)

I would go with a linen color. There are dozens of shades. Just have fun with the choosing process.

Be aware when doing gray walls of any type, you make the rooms seem cooler and less cosy.

I would stick with a white. Too much gray can be very dreary - I would not overdo on it. You can never go wrong with a fresh white - with no distinct undertone.

Gray can be very pretty - but, needs some color to lighten and brighten - or it will all just get lost together, especially if there is not a lot of window light being let in or even on an overcast or cloudy day.

Make the floor stand out on its own with a fresh white backdrop on the walls.

I would not do gray walls.  If you've got gray on the floors that would be entirely too much gray.  I would go with linen.

We have Cortec HD in fresco driftwood with shewin Williams funtional grey. That paint color has brown and green undertones. It might go well with the flooring you described.

@Elom  The color that would look beautiful is China White by Benjamin Moore.  It is a very pale gray.  Believe me, this color is outstanding and will definitely compliment your other colors.  You can throw it some white somewhere which will bring out the China White even more.  Like white flowers in a glass vase.  Cat Wink
