I have very narrow frames around my windows. Too narrow, that if I tried to install blinds, they would stick out. Wondering if anyone has ever installed blinds and mounted them to the moulding that is around the frame of the window? So technically, the blinds would extend further then the width of the window, but would also cover up the moulding around the side. I haven't been able to find any pictures online of this look, and wondering if it would look odd to install this way. Thoughts.

I have done this Lynnj in my bathroom a roman shade is mounted on the molding not the inside of the window....I did it this way in this room because I wanted a cleaner look if that make any sense...and I have plantation shutters below. And I am in the process of doing this on a enclosed porch that we have...not for the look but because the windows are a strange measurement and the blinds will only fit if I measure from the outside of the molding....there are no rules anymore....and most blinds come with brackets that are used for mounting inside the window or out(on the molding). Hopes this helps and good luck

Thanks for sharing your experience, pepmom. I think going this way is my only option. Just hard to envision what it will look like. Knowing you did this with a roman shade has helped to put my mind at ease with this option.

My bathroom window doesn't have enough depth for a blind, so I had no choice but to do an outside mount. I attached it to the wall just above the molding, rather than on the molding. If you decide to mount to the molding, make sure holes are pre-drilled or the wood could split inserting the screws.

Goggle "outside mount blinds" and click on images, you'll see many photos with blinds mounted on molding the and wall like caffeiia's picture above.

Thanks for posting the photo, caffeiina. This gives me a better idea of what it would look like. Not too bad. It's good to know that I am not the only one with the challenging window dimension problem.

Yes, whenever I buy blinds the associate always asks if it'll be a inside mount or outside mount.
