I found an item that I love and would like it as the focal point of the mantel. However, it's only 11 inches tall. Any ideas or picts of how to scale it to give it more presence as well as proportion? tia!

Would a candle holder work?

11" is bigger than a cantaloupe. I think it would be fine unless you have a very large mantle and/or in a very large room.

@ThinkingOutLoud What is the item? Some things look good when placed atop something else to give them a presence.

What is the piece you want to highlight? Can you include a picture? Can't comment without knowing what it looks like.

I need to know what it is, all of the dimensions, width, color, how large is your fireplace and mantel. What else do you plan on putting on the fireplace mantle? Do you have anything hanging on the wall over the fireplace and what is it?
Eleven inches is a good size if it's wide; but could look lost on a very large fireplace with a large mantle, but just right on a smaller fireplace and smaller mantle.
To give it presence, it also should be a different color than the mantle and wall. Otherwise, it will fade away.
Putting something close to it could make it look even smaller.
Also, how large is your furniture and other accessories. If you want to give it presence, it shouldn't be too small in relation to everything else in the room.
IMO, if it doesn't fit within those guidelines, I'd wait to find something that is perfect for that space that you also love. You're less likely to be sorry you bought it.

That is only about as tall as a Barbie Doll. Unless it is wide, or you can elevate it, wouldn't it be dwarfed sitting on the mantle?

I often elevate items I want to highlight by placing them on a decorative box. I've used hat boxes, decorative tins that came with candy or stationary in them. I've even seen square pieces of wood used as a base for special objects. Give that a try and see if it works for you.

@ThinkingOutLoud - I sometimes use old, hard bound books to add height for certain pieces on my mantle for fall decor.

In my house, I'd put the item on top of a stack of antique books.
