DD loves Ikea, has for years. She has announced more than once "I think I going to run to Ikea", like it is the corner market. It is freakin 2 hrs. 40 min. 1 way.
Years ago she talked her Dad and I into going to Philly to go to Ikea. I was in there for 10 min. nope, I had enough. I went and sat in the car. Hubby was 10 min. behind me. The only thing that saved over 5 hours in the car and the loons on the turnpike was lunch at Legal Seafood.
Shopping for me is in, door, get what I need and get out. DH was l worse than me. As a kid his Mother took him and his brothers on all day shopping excursions. He hated shopping.

@Citrine1Gotcha! I've only been to the Conshohocken one, so that's all I know! And the Home Depot is right there. No worries! For me it's my closest store. Not next door, but within an hour or so.
I actually like going through the "maze" upstairs! It's great exercise & you always see something new or an idea to incorporate into what you already have. Plus some stuff is only sold upstairs, and not downstairs w everything else.
Same for me with the South Philly store -- not down the street, but a half hour away. The Conshohocken store would take me longer to get to, but maybe I'll check it out sometime!

@Citrine1 wrote:@FancyPhillyshopper Did you visit the one on Columbus Blvd. in South Philly? (just a guess because of your name). I haven't been there in several years, but I enjoy the store when I do visit. I especially like the area with the dinnerware, picture frames, etc.
I don't always leave with an item, but I do leave with new ideas.
@Citrine1 I was thinking the same thing....the Ikea that I have been to is that one in South Philly. It's not too far from my daughter right now. (she plans on moving soon)

@Oznell wrote:@panda1234, agreed, Valentina and hubby do seem like a fun couple! And I'd like to tour their house in real life, especially to see all their pottery, etc.
@Oznell love to see where all the pottery is stored.

IKEA Kitchen cabinet boxes are made in the USA. Fronts, panels etc made elsewhere. Cabinet hinges and slides are Blum, high quality made in Germany. Kitchen appliances are whirlpool, made in USA but of course the electronic chips used in them are manufactured in china, Taiwan and South Korea.
I do look at the country of manufacture before deciding to buy product at IKEA and many products are made in france or Eastern European countries.
Most new furniture is manufactured in China, shipped flat and assembled at the destination. The only way to avoid that I know of is to buy antiques, or custom, and local shops who source their furniture directly from the craftspeople.

@Oznell wrote:Agree with your every sentiment, @FancyPhillyshopper -- I'd like to have an Ikea near me!
When I lived in New Orleans, there was a similar Scandinavian-type furniture store, that had fun mock-ups, great for getting ideas. And they also had an airy cafe, with wonderful bistro-type food.
Blogger Valentina, of the online site "The House of Valentina" visits her Atlanta Ikea alot, and videos her shopping trips there. It's not the same as being there, but you might enjoy checking her out.
I agree. I like a nice, clean, fresh airy look.

I love strolling through IKEA! I especially love their household gadgets, dishes, placemats, etc.
