We had ordered marble caps for our half walls in our living room and kitchen at the stoneyard. We have wanted them for a long while but they were too pricey until my housekeeper told me to just go to the stoneyard and chose from the scrap pieces. They give you the material for free because someone else already paid for it and these are the left over pieces. All you have to pay for is the labor to cut them and install them.So we chose a really beautiful piece of carerra marble. It was beautifully veined, and we were looking forward to getting them. Well, we paid 3/4 down and we haven't heard from them for 4 weeks so DH called them. They scratched the piece we ordered when they were cutting it and were not able to polish the deep scratches out so they threw it away. NO ONE CALLED US AT ALL. So we had to go back to the stoneyard and choose another piece. They did not have any marble that was thick enough for this job so we had to take a piece of granite. I am NOT a fan of granite at all but this piece is acceptable i guess. Beggers can't be choosy as the saying goes but it is such a dissapointment since the first piece of marble was so beautiful. So for the same money we get something that will be functional but no where near as beautiful and elegant.

That's a darn shame. Personally, I would be furious that they did not call. No excuse for that in my book. I hope the granite is to your liking once it's in place.

I know it really burned us up that they demanded $300 deposit then when they made the error they couldn't even call and tell us we had to pick another piece. When there was no marble available DH asked them if we could get a refund and they said no , because they already had a lot of time involved in this job so far because they were trying to get the scratches out. They made it sound like it was somehow our fault they scratched the marble.According to them this particular piece was part of a project in a multimillion dollar condo and this material was specially imported , so we would never find another piece so beautiful. I imagine that Bathroom is awesome.

Twopeas, all of lacey1's comments to this poster are uncalled for and they never add anything to the actual conversation. HH, I too agree they should have called you. However, since you were funding the project on a budget, I still think the granite will be nice.

I would be upset that they didn't call.

I'm just curious why you don't like granite though.

Vera - that is what i don't like - it is just too busy. and too industrial looking. I wanted beautiful and elegant and instead I'm getting industrial and durable (which , of course, my DH loves).

My DH did ask for a refund but they refused saying they had invested a lot of time into trying to polish the scratches out of the marble and they needed to finish this job to be paid the remainder. So DH caved and said we would pick another piece - believe me i would have argued with them and gotten my money back but my DH is a softie for the working guy. and, yes, I doubt there are many places around here doing this kind of work. The marble for this particular project was thicker and the marble they usually get is only 3/8in thick to be used for windowsills. they said they would not have any more like this piece for a long time as it was specially brought in for a custom project. So waiting for another piece like it could be a long time.

I would be so torked if this happened to us. There is no way I would've continued to do business with these people. They would give me my money back or we would go to small claims court. This is unacceptable!

I'm sorry you have to settle for less, happy. It doesn't seem fair at all.
