Re: Husbands and Their Decorating Input ??

I have a friend that is redecorating her family room and she is at odds with her husband over the new design.....they have different views and she is really frustrated.

My husband has always allowed me to decorate as I wish.

My question:  how much input does your husband have in your decorating choices/design?

I am the decorator of most of the house. We have a loft area that he has decorated with a few things and our Bar Room is 90% him/10% me.

It has worked for 37 years.

How much input goes my husband have?

Zip. Nada. Diddly.

Why? Because he doesn't care. You could do nothing, sleep on the floor, eat off crates and he would be fine with that. His outlook is "does it serve a purpose and is the cost worth it?" Many a battle we have had over purchasing items for our home, let me tell ya. I WISH he had interest but...he doesn't. Same with his brothers, same with our sons.

Re: Husbands and Their Decorating Input ??

My late husband (had he had money for college at the time) could have been an architect and decorator.

He had amazing taste.  He designed our house and picked out the furniture, etc.  I find it boring and left everything up to him.  I just didn't care.

One of his businesses was building houses.  We had a partner (realtor).  Often she would even defer to him on the designs of the houses and (after they were built) decorating them for sale.

Oh he has input,   but I make the final decision. Always have, always will.

Works out just fine. He rarely ever come up with any off the wall idea that I would just roll my eyes at or stare at him... like “THAT is just NOT going to happen...”!

But, he has gotten a few looks over the years for sure for a few things he came up! I was like “Seriously, NO”. Gotta laugh ... my house, his garage ...

DH and I share creative ideas, shop together or share what we find online. DH told me yesterday how nice our home looked. I concede he's talented with patio, deck, mancave and landscaping. He's convinced I'm better with interior. Still a team effort.

@SahmIam . My husband is the same way...they must be brothers.  Is he an engineer?  They are so very "practical".

I often wonder what the house would look like if I was no longer around...more like a guy's college apartment.

@haddon9 LOL! His first degree: double major in CS and Engineering!!  And yes, a college dorm is EXACTLY what it would be. He had a fit the first time I purchased drapery rods. Why?  "You can just use a staple gun and staple them to the wall!!" Oh, and a white bed sheet is just as good as any curtain/drape.

Brilliant mind but OMG....lol.

None, he really doesn't care as long as I don't go over budget.

Re: Husbands and Their Decorating Input ??

He does have "some" input but to put it bluntly -- he could live in a tent and be happy as long as he can fit his 75" tv, dvr and remote with easy chair in it.

Mostly, I do the legwork as far as planning, selecting colors, etc.

And he sometimes "happily" just "opens his wallet to let his moths out"....other times, he "nitpicks" nickels and dimes"...lol

Married over 40 years so not going to "ask him for input now"....I just "cross my fingers & toes" I like the finished project (because then I'd have to change it ... and he wouldn't do that!)

As for home decorating -- no input.  He likes what I've done so he leaves it to me ... he gets to have his "garage" space to fill up!
