What bothers me is when a rug is placed in a room where the furniture is put on the rug only partially. For example, the image of the living room, upper-right grouping. Not sure why, but this really bugs me...lol.Woman LOL

@SilleeMee

I agree.  And I cannot imagine a sofa, two chairs and a coffee table fitting on a 5x8 rug.  That is close quarters.

I've basically decided that an area rug can never be too big, after going too small several times😏

@SilleeMee  I think it's more noticeable on the chart than it would be in person.  If you're actually in the room there are other distractions to which your eyes go and I doubt you'd notice the rug.

Why do you think there was no diagram for a rug in a bedroom with a king size bed?

There is no right on wrong for rugs or anything else in our homes.  People want an individual look in their homes today and they don't stick to the "rules" the way our mothers and grandmothers did.   The post made me smile, I don't have curtains up in any of my windows.  We have vertical blinds in the LR and horizontal blinds in the other rooms.  I have plants and candles on the window sills.  I like light and open spaces and I think it's fresh, modern look.  I have a friend who asks the same question every single time she comes to my house  "so, you haven't found any curtains you like yet?"  I've explained it to her 50 times at least, she can't relate to it so it doesn't stick, she's probably horrified that people could live without curtains...lol

We had to get a 12 x 12 rug for the bedroom with king size bed. It extended from just inside the head board to about 2-3 ft beyond the foot board and from night stand to night stand in width. The only other choice was runners.

So you would say why not just carpet the room? Well the carpet was worn and we put in wood to sell the house. We did the rug for our comfort until house sold.

To get a 12 x12 rug you go to a regular carpet store and just chose any regular wall to wall carpet and pick your deminsions. The rug is "bound" with a fabric tape and can be put on a pad too. Really you can have any size or pattern made by just checking out carpet stores that sell wall to wall.

I have a few very nice wool area rugs but recently bought a Faux Wool 8x10 from Karastan on sale and am very pleased.
