to in install a new window?  We're scheduled to have our new kitchen window installed next week on Tuesday.  They'll have to take out the old one and then cut another larger hole adjacent to it, take out the old window and install the new...repair the wall where the old one was with insulation, new siding, dry wall...

Do you think they'll be able to get it done in one day?...never had this done before, so don't really know.   Also the electrician will be coming over that day to move some outlets, etc...

Just a little nervous...

Re: How long does it take ?...

Couple of hours. The contractor can give you an estimate.

Hope it's warm where you are. Single digits here today!

It's nice and sunny today, but cold ..in the high twenties...Tuesday it's supposed to rain and be in the thirties...another concern..

Re: How long does it take ?...

With all that work and coordinating the installer and the electrician, I wouldn't count on one day, it's always "we'll be back tomorrow to finish the job"

Re: How long does it take ?...

I was told they would come on Tuesday to install the window and the electrician would come also to move a bunch of outlets/switches. Then the drywaller is to come on Wednesday to drywall and mud, then will wait til the next Monday to continue with the kitchen itself (moving plumbing/sink/cabinets, etc).

I just hope they don't drag it out too far, as we're scheduled to have flooring  installed on the 20th...I did mention that to the contractor yesterday when he scheduled the initial work for next week....we'll see..

Re: How long does it take ?...

The actual window installation should be pretty fast as long as all the prep work was done properly. The finishing and cosmetics is what takes time.

Re: How long does it take ?...

I plan on doing the finishing caulking/painting myself to save some money.  My husband will put up the bead board himself.

It's been 4 weeks since they took the final measurements to order what we need.  They were waiting on the window to come in before they could do anything..so hopefully it will all go fast.

I was initially told it would only take 4 days, but they found there would be more electrical moved once they took a longer look..

I hope we didn't schedule the floor too soon, we were just guessing on the time frame.

Re: How long does it take ?...

When we replaced our wood windows with vinyl windows, the husband/wife team replaced and caulked all 14 windows in the house, and loaded the old windows and storm sashes for haul away, in less than 7 hours.

Re: How long does it take ?...

In Octboer we replaced 14 windows in our house and they finished in 1 day. This included total pull-out of the window in our main bathroom (we replaced the wooden frame with a composite frame) and lead paint abatement procedures throughout. While the drywall and electrical work add some complicating factors to your job, your contractor should be able to give you a firm estimate for the installation time.
