On 8/9/2014 ~moxie~ said: I have a coffee table that has 2 large drawers thai i keep magazines in one drawer and the other has pens, pencils and note books as well as my remotes. I keep a stack of books on a fairly large tray with a couple birds. One is sitting on the stack of books and the other birds is sitting on the tray. I love coffee tables that are decorative as well as providing storage.
Me too - there it is sitting right in the middle of the living room - so I like to dress it up. Not too much though, so people still have a place to set a drink if they stop by.If i put snacks out I will generally lift up one of the two side leaves for that.I think it would look awfully bare in there if there wasn't a coffee table and I also don't know where company would set down their drinks.
when we lived in Pa we had a family room and I used an antique cedar cheat as the coffee table. I had a piece of glass on top so we didn't damage it with liquids or anything. When we were younger it seems we were always sitting on the floor with our food / drinks or something i was working on on the top of the chest. Now it is in our guest room as the TV stand against the wall opposite the bottom of the bed.

I clean it off, lol that's how I dress it up. Right now it's piled up with remotes, books, magazines, blu-rays, my iPad and an empty candy container.

Our LR is very small and we only have one sofa and one chair for seating so I have been looking at coffee tables that are round and have wedge shaped cushions (like ottomans) under them that you can pull out to sit on. It would give me 4 more places for people to sit. Now if we need more seats we have to bring in chairs from the DR or the lanai.

I don't have a coffee table, there are 4 end table and small table scattered throughout the room and a coffee table would not leave much floor space, so I opted to get rid of it.Gives us and the dog room to play in the floor. lol

I have an oval glass topped metal base coffee table in my family room and in the center sits a white iron bowl with some colored balls, plums and golds mostly, in the center. On one side are two large candlestick holders done in a distressed white kind of country chic finish and on top of each of the candle holder sits a 4" round plum colored candle. On the other side of the table sits a small pic of my children and grandchildren in a distressed white country chic finish frame.
That's it, unless you count my book and my glasses when I'm not reading.

Not a fan of coffee tables.

Living Room: I have a large round glass top coffee table with a floral arrangement as the centerpiece. The flowers are arranged in a treasured turquoise green hobnail pitcher surrounded by six hobnail glasses that were a wedding gift to my DHs parents. I also have a medium size Longenberger covered basket (remotes are kept inside), a candle and a painting of a yellow rose done by a special friend. We usually have one or two books there too. I love my coffee table and would not want to be without it.
I would like to change the coffee table décor this fall and am currently looking for a bird cage as the centerpiece. I haven't been able to find one I like yet ... but I will keep looking.
Family Room: I have an ottoman with storage underneath. It has minimal décor.

Mine is a large, round wood/glass cocktail table. I have a pottery pot that a friend made (gorgeous) with a bunch a fall leaves inside it. That's about all I do. I like to keep it simple, because I don't like to have to dust around too much stuff.
For Christmas I change the decor.

Mine is a very large Mexican Pine double trunk w/a small stack of books on one corner with an unusual small bowl that sits on top of the books, a miniature anthurium plant in a lattice white lantern as the pot in the middle towards the back @10 in. in height , 2 small pictures frames in front of the stacked books, 2 candles in very different holders, a finial,a ceramic bowl I made on the other corner , a little wood turtle and a ceramic set of coaster w/ leaf motifs on them kind of in the center towards the back- very eclectic and still room for drinks, plates, magazine, newspaper, tablet(which all never stay there -just while using ) and feet on the love seat side and along the couch side - remotes go in the drawers. Cannot imagine a family or living room w/o a coffee table/ottoman. I need to put my feet up to be comfy
At christmas time its Christmas books, a small 6in poinsettia, a brass reindeer w/ attached sled filled with miniature wrapped boxes and a little Santa ,little miniature brass angles ,Christmas candles and coasters - very festive!!

I am shopping for a new coffee table at the moment and it seems I will never find one because I'm too picky (or too cheap)! Any table in my home seems to always become a stuff magnet, so my goal is to keep stuff off the coffee table. My hat goes off to those of you who have your clutter under control enough to actually decorate your table.
