Re: How do you keep your TV?

[ Edited ]

@Tigriss I do not find those buffet style TV stands with those big black TV screens sitting on top of them to be  at all attractive. I don't care if they are the current trend or not. They won't ever be in my house. As I said before - I'll be keeping  what I have, which is a beautiful piece of furniture, cost too much to just toss it out because a trend has changed.

Weare NOT listing our house for sale.

When I look at those trendy TV stands I  see none of those have cable boxes nor speakers which , in real life, would make them look cluttered, but are necessary to have.

We don’t have speakers, they are built in the tv. Our cable box is about 3 inches high and 9 inches wide. It fits on the cabinet fine. Mine is not trendy. It is a long narrow cabinet with two glass doors and three small drawers. Like a sofa table with storage underneath.

On a stand or a dresser.

I would never put  it on the wall.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

I guess what I have is out of style.  Large entertainment center that holds the TV, music system, and has  wood doors/cabinet which holds the music, DVD's, etc. and also two doors with glass that hold some ceramic items I display.  It is not attached to the wall.  I'm sure a new buyer would remove it, but I don't think I need too.  I hope to live here the rest of my days.  I wonder if I did remove it, if the carpet would show  a mark where it was?   Also, where would I put the items in holds?

We have been told by our Realtor that our entertainment center is a dinosaur and we should get rid of it. It is one of those ones that covers an entire wall, has cabinets on each end and under the TV area. The area for the TV is about 60" so we have a TV about 50" in there. Above the TV is a shelf that I use as a sort of mantal to display family pictures. All in all, this piece of furniture is 8ft wide x 84" tall.I could never get along without it because it holds so much stuff. The TV - The DVD player, CD player, speakers, radio, drawers to hold dvds and cds neatly in place, so you can read what they are, all our books  and has lots of display space behind glass doors.

So I wonder, since my entertainment center is passe - where do you all have your TV ?

BTW - in our guest room and in DH's den, and the kitchen  the TV's are hanging on the wall.

@151949  If you aren't selling, why ask the question with the Realtor's suggestion in mind? What difference does it make how anyone else has decorated their home or has their TV located?

Is this just another "want" like the white painted kitchen cabinets, the Corian counter tops, a trip to PA and wooden floors (among so much more) you've mentioned just this summer? Please try to be content with what you have. Life will be so much easier and more pleasant if you aren't always trying to keep up with some fantasy.

Pay off that mortgage and relax!

BTW: You could have responded to @Tigriss without yelling (caps). The way your post was worded, it certainly didn't mention the Realtor was from 2017. It was a confusing paragraph. Take responsibility for your own posts. Kindness pays.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

Yours must look like mine.

Takes up the entire wall, looks like a built in.

it's a really nice piece of furniture, the top detail looks like crown moulding.

Lots of beautiful detail all over like you would find in high end custom kitchen cabinets.

I have 2 other older entertainment centers that really look tacky.  I would get rid of those in a heartbeat, I only use them for storage.   No TV, because today's TVs are too big.

Mine is 5 total pieces, very costly but we found it marked way down at a local furniture store having a huge sale.   I have cats & grandsons, I prefer my TV tucked away.

To get top dollar you may have to consider putting it in storage.

Realtors want to show homes that are sparsely furnished.

What about the ones who turn their nose up on the color of a room??

So crazy

I find it pretty sad that your realtor thinks (with valid reason, I am sure) people won't like your house because of the (nonpermanent) entertainment center.  Don't people understand the concept of the house vs. the furniture, anymore?

Re: How do you keep your TV?

But on selling houses, it all depends on the market situation in your area.  If you are living where old people live, then other buyers will probably be old and will like old people's funiture.  If you are aiming for a younger or wider market demogaphic, then you probably need to update the look.  Especially if the market is soft.

The best thing to do is keep up with the market for houses in your area and see what is selling, and try to figure out why and what is different from your house.  You can tour on Zillow now and it's easy.

It's very expensive often to be stubborn about making some changes when trying to sell a house.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

All of my tvs are now mounted.  I used to have a large entertainment center years ago but now the tvs are on the walls.  I love the look.
