Re: How do you clean your garage???

I have a guy friend who's retired and he and I hang out together (his wife is younger, prettier and doesn't care).

Sometimes he comes over and helps me do things. He ends up cleaning up my garage and within months it's right back to being a junky mess.

Step by step...so first I focus on any empty boxes. Then tools. Then something else . This works for me everywhere in the house. Like, if it's gotten out of,control, I'll pick a room and just focus on papers first. Then clothes. Then dishes. Then another category. For me,it is always papers, clothes or dishes

(kidding) We pull everything out onto the driveway, then scrub the floor with Simple Green. I love the smell and it works great to clean off salt stains from winter. When it's dry we put everything back in, wiping it off and discarding unused items . The final step is to put down a new runner all the way across the width of the garage, that way you can run out in bare feet to grab water/pop. I purchase the runner at home depot , they cut it to how many feet you need. Usually $30 investment each year-I love it. Relatives mock us how clean our garage is, but I think they're jealous!

That sounds lovely!

Re: How do you clean your garage???

Ours was clean for years (despite my late husband being a hoarding type.) The key was it was too small for anything but 2 cars and a lawnmower.

Unfortunately, in clearing out the basement of Bob's stuff, I put things in the garage for a yard sale. The yard sale was only moderately good, and then I didn't have a plan to remove the rest.

So now, I'm getting guys up from a thrift store owned by an acquaintance and they are going to take the stuff away.

Bottom line: push all the stuff you don't want to one side and call a removal service.

Re: How do you clean your garage???

I had my garage quite under control and put my car in it every night. Then both my parents died and my son died and all their stuff got moved into my garage. There is a narrow path through from front to back. I can't even get to my tool bench. Due to a chronic back problem, I can't stand long enough to sort it all out and get rid of stuff, so there it sits.

Re: How do you clean your garage???

We are cleaning out our whole house. My husband just cleaned out the garage and boy, it looks lovely. So clean, no messes and he threw away all his old stuff. He gave our grandson his old saws measuring tapes, etc. When people drive by we noticed that they look in our garage and stare at it. Must be a lot cleaner than theirs.

Re: How do you clean your garage???

We cleaned out our house and basement last year. And you know what, we don't miss any of it.
