I have a queen sleigh bed and I put sliders under all four corners. I can slide the bed around by myself on the carpet. It's a little heavy, but I can do it. I find that dust collects more on the back side of the headboard than under the bed.

Ditto.

I have an inexpensive Shark sweeper that literally folds flat. It's very good for getting under the bed. It isn't as effective as a vacuum, but is surely better than the infrequent under-bed vacuuming I used to do.

Re: How do you clean under your heavy bed?

We eliminated the problem when we got our Select Comfort mattress back in the '90s. Bought an oak unit that sits directly on the floor. Has 3 deep drawers on each side of the bed and one in the center at the foot of the bed. Not only does this give us extra storage, but there is NO 'under the bed' to have to clean. Ever. The Select Comfort support and mattress fit right on top of the wood base.

I would never go back to a standard bed frame for any reason. Would never go back to a regular mattress or even a soft side tubular water bed again.

Re: How do you clean under your heavy bed?

Well, I have decided to go out today and look for a sweeper that will get under my bed. The Shark one sounds like something I might like. I had to come off pain medicine that did wonders for my back pain (due to negative side effects). It allowed me to do more and I was loving it but.... such is life. Also my sister could use some extra money so I thought I would ask her to clean certain things once a month. She is in good shape for her age (one year younger then me) Thanks for all the in-put. These days I have so many decisions I have to make that one more little thing seems like a mountain to me. Thanks for making it a little easier Smile.

My apartment is very small, I only have two closets. Therefore I have all storage under my bed, so it is not possible to clean.

I'm thinking maybe we might have to start thinking about an apartment or a smaller place. I guess we'll just see what this year brings. My husband has mentioned it several times.

A smaller place helps a lot. When we are in our camper I have no trouble keeping up with hte cleaning as it doesn't have such high ceilings and there the bed is a platform with storage under neath so no cleaning necessary. Maybe that is what the OP needs - a platform bed.

Just saw this....might be a good idea as my bed is about 10 yrs.old now and soon will be needing another.

Jubilant, Although I have all hardwoods and vinyl, I do have several throw rugs. I own a previous version of the Shark cordless sweeper, and love it. It seems to work quite well, at least on the surface debris, on my throw rugs. I use it several times a day in the kitchen. I also use it for quick runs through the entire house when the dust bunnies have gotten out of hand (it happens so fast!) I use mine under my beds and I think is very easy to maneuver under beds. During a sale combined with a good coupon, I bought the new version a few months ago, anticipating the battery on my old one dying. I haven't gotten around to using the newest version, though, because the battery is still going pretty strong on the old one. I follow the instructions carefully on charging.

Good luck to you with your health and with your decision.
