@Lynnster67 We had a nazi HOA for 2 years and last winter I had all I could take so I got up a petition and got 94% of the homeowners to sign it and we impeached them. Then the manager of the HOA said we would have to change the rule that prevented snowbirds from being on the board and we did that with a unanimous vote.Now the new and kinder HOA says we can do pretty much as we please in the back of the house but the fronts have to remain consistant. OK with me.We spend our time in the back on the lanai anyway. This winter I'm gonna put some pretty plants & flowers back therde, including a gardenia or two.

We have a cape Ann. It was dark brown when we bought it and have never changed it. Bought light tan shudders. It is all wood and would not want to change it unless we sided it.

The problems w/our HOA is that 

1.  There is pretty much no turnover.  The board prez has been there since the beginning of time (1988).  Plus he rents out his condo so he doesn't even live in the community anymore.  There should be a rule that absentee landlords can't be on the HOA board.

2.  The board pretty much rubber stamps whatever the mgmt company recommends (the budget, RFPs, changes to covenants, etc.)

3.  It seems that any time I question something, I get a nit-picky maintenance notice shortly after.

I stopped going to meetings (although I DO read the minutes) b/c it's always the same [stuff]:  ppl complaining about parking, dogs running off-leash, owners not picking up the poop, etc.

My friends keep telling me I should run next spring but I generally work 10 hrs a day plus 2 hrs in the car so I have better things to do w/my free time.  It would take me 15 minutes to grab the prez gavel and bop him upside the head w/it and that would be the end of that!

@Lynnster67  MY next door neighbor has lived in Fl. her whole life - she is 86.Her advice to everyone on the subject of HOAs is - when your home just stay in the house. It works for her.
