Re: How do you Feel About Picture Rails?

Picture rails yes. Shelves No.  A picture rail Looks elegant by itself even with no pictures hanging. The shelf will always be a big dust collector.  Unless you have a particular collection you want in view and not under cover I can't see using a shelf that way.

I like it ...but I think about the cleaning.

I'm sure it depends on where you live and where it would be located in the house, but I only climb up once a year to clean mine and the stuff on it. I'm a pretty fussy house keeper, and I'm always shocked just how dirty the stuff is NOT up there. Needs done once a year for sure, but not what you would think it being.

Mine is in the dining room. I can imagine one in the bedroom would get very dusty and need much more maintenance.

Not for me - more cleaning to be done.

Not for me.  My last house had kitchen cabinets that didn't go to the ceiling.  I put stuff up there and the dust multiplied overnight.

In my parents' house that my younger sib live in now has this exact look in the spare bedroom, looked cute, mom did it up nicely. So this room I think looks great, not too busy either which was the same as what mom did.

They and now sib has the white iron bed still in that room. This bed is as old as sib Barb & I. We both slept in this bed when we were very young little girls. Of course, the bed was adorned with handmade quilts.

The wall pegs around the room come from the Shakers.  They kept everything extremely clean.  Their work was to the glory of God.

I've stayed in a closed Shaker community overnight in Kentucky.

Eli Whitney, who invented the cotton gin was a Shaker.

They also started mail order with their seed business.

I didn't know that they called them Picture Rails.   I love them, we had one in one of the small bedrooms in our old house.  I always wished that there was one in the master bedroom.

I like it but not in a bedroom.  I would rather see it in a study, library or office.
