It would be OK if you had higher ceilings. Otherwise I think it tends to close in tne room.

 

If I did have those, I would definitely put large sized things on it - so you could actually see the details, etc.

It makes the room seem smaller.  I wouldn’t want to have to dust it either.

The ceilings in the room have to be high otherwise they make the room look smaller

I cannot appreciate the objects when I see this type of shelving in a home as I am too distracted by thoughts of how one cleans or doesn't clean this area. I also can never fully see anything up there. 

In this particular photo, those pegs  are odd...what use are they for erc.

I have one in my dining room, and it holds my small Longaberger baskets and Rowe pottery. It was the best thing about this house when we bought it.
