@ID2 wrote:Oh my goodness do NOT use a Mr. Clean Eraser!!! Please listen to me....do NOT! I tell this story on here all the time. Years ago when I would go to my parents and clean their condo, I tried using a Mr. Clean Eraser on the scuffs and marks up and down their hallway. Yup you guessed it...sure it got rid of the scuff marks BUT it dulled the area so you then saw dull marks on the walls! My father was not a happy camper because he then had to paint all those walls! To this day I won't use one of those erasers!
Same thing happened here, we use an eggshell finish paint and it took the finish right off and you can see the dull mark where I tried to clean.

I use magic eraser and have never had a spot that didn't come off! Good luck!

If you have a little bit of the original paint in a sealed jar or can, shake the paint, apply a little bit to a Q-tip, wipe excess from the tip and then apply to black marks.
I used this technique to cover up black marks from a copper tray that rested on the corner wall behind the toaster oven. Did a great job with no dulling as with the " eraser " product.
Speaking of pencil end erasers: be careful because some erasers leave dirty, tinted finish where they were used....on paper, on walls.

To prevent it from happening again you can line the back of the frame with some velcro that you press on. That will keep from frame off the wall.

I am constantly using BonAmi to clean scuff marks on my walls. It works wonders without damaging the paint.

I painted much of my house with a good satin finish paint and use the Magic Erasers all the time on the walls with great results. It will clean off marks and scuffs very well and doesn't affect the finish of the paint at all.
Maybe it makes a difference what type of paint you have. For example, if your walls are painted with flat paint it probably requires a different solution. I didn't see mention of what type of paint is on the wall.

The Mr. Magic Erasers DO work mircles on glass top ranges!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to offer suggestions. I will be cautious in what I use to clean the two black areas on the well. I don't think I have any residual paint to use, otherwise a Q Tip dipped in the paint would be a good solution.
