I had a black-framed picture on a table and it was leaning against a wall for about 3 years. I now hung the picture on a different wall. The black frame left black marks on my wall.
I don't want to make the marks worse by trying to remove them, so I am hoping you can advise me the best way to remove the marks.
Thank you.

Try using Magic Eraser. Those things are fantastic!

Try one of those Mr Clean Magic Erasers.

This has happened to me and I just repainted the area.

I'm with the others - Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It helps of course if the walls are scrubbable or washable.

If the Magic Eraser is not effective, you might try a product called Goo-Gone. Spray a small amount on the area, rub it in thoroughly, wait a few minutes, and wipe off. Sometimes a second application is needed. Don't leave it on too long though since it will continue to work and might also affect the paint on your wall. It's great for removing ink, adhesives, paint, any number of things.

I have gotten black marks off walls with just a good old fashion pink pencil eraser, dish soap and sponge, or a Magic Eraser - only thing is - those do tend to crumble very easy and make a mess on the floor underneath where you are cleaning - I usually lay something over the floor and let makes the clean up easier. Good luck!

The only time I used magic eraser on a door with a black mark, it took the paint right off the door so that ended my use of magic eraser for that purpose.
I use a granular liquid cleaner like Vim. Put a small dab on a white paper towel and gently rub the marked area. It works for me every time. You may have to gently clean the area when done to remove residue. Just plain water on a white paper. Good luck. LM

Full strengh liquid all-purpose cleaner (Lysol, Mr. Clean) dipped onto the corner of a rag works for me.

Oh my goodness do NOT use a Mr. Clean Eraser!!! Please listen to me....do NOT! I tell this story on here all the time. Years ago when I would go to my parents and clean their condo, I tried using a Mr. Clean Eraser on the scuffs and marks up and down their hallway. Yup you guessed it...sure it got rid of the scuff marks BUT it dulled the area so you then saw dull marks on the walls! My father was not a happy camper because he then had to paint all those walls! To this day I won't use one of those erasers!
