How Long Does A Stick Vacuum Last For You?

We have a Dyson Stick Vacuum last for you?  We have a well-rated Dyson that is less than 2 years old and is losing it's oomph.  It just doesn't pick things up with as much force as it had initially.

I would be interested in hearing your experiences.  And my husband cleans it out often, so that's not an issue.

Thanks!

That's the big drawback with rechargeable batteries...limited lifespan.  Call Dyson CS and ask about a replacement battery.  It would hurt my soul to put an otherwise nice machine in the garbage can.

From what I read, cordless vacs last 2 to 5 years if the battery is not replaced. If you replace the battery then that will extend it's lifespan to 8 years and then mechanical things can go wrong with it...kaput!

The cheapo model I asked for at Christmas is doing fine. I recharge and clean it once a week. However, I use it on wood laminate and just run it over the carpet like a sweeper. The corded Shark vacuum still is used twice a week for deeper cleaning.

Re: How Long Does A Stick Vacuum Last For You?

Years ago I had a Bissell cordless vacuum and I LOVED it.  I paid about $50 for it and it lasted ten years!

Then, it stopped working.  I though perhaps I left it re-charging for too long or something like that.

I searched until I found another of the same model and bought it.  It lasted maybe two years. Very disappointing.

I do not recall how long I have had my dyson stick vacuum but at least 8 years....I thought I needed a new battery earlier this year.  My husband took the vacuum apart and there was a HUGE dirt clog part that was hindering the pick up.

Once he cleaned it out, it works perfectly.  I always keep the dirt container cleaned out but the clog was further up...who knew!

[ Edited ]

I have been using mine for 5 years now. So far so good. I really like it except the switch you have to keep pressed down while using. I have the Dyson V8 Absolute I paid $365 from Wal-Mart during Prime Day Sales. It came with both vacuum heads.

I checked their site for replacement battery so I would have one when I needed it. They were out of stock. Left email to be notified when available. Never received an email or checked to see if they are available now.

Will probably buy a Shark when I need a new one since as I get older I'm not holding down that switch so I can vacuum?

I have an upright Hoover plus a canister Kenmore. Both are older but like new since I didn't use either that much. Not what I want to use. Not lugging around a canister plus the Hoover is a bit heavy but works good.

I've never had luck with any of my Dyson's.  I don't think they're anywhere near as good as they claim to be.  I got a few years out of them.

Of course, I have a collie (sometimes 2 at a time), so I usually vaccum about 5 - 6 times a week.  I now use Shark vacuums.  They seem to handle the dog hair a little better.

I don't own the Dyson but I have purchsed the Shark several times.  It only me 12-15 months then all kind of problems start.  Overheating, won;t pick up good etc.  But Dyson is a lot more expensive I would think it would last longer that two years for the price.

Re: How Long Does A Stick Vacuum Last For You?

I have a Hoover Linx that has lasted almost 20 years.  The only problem with it now is that the wheels are deteriorating and they leave ugly black marks.  I've been trying to figure out a way to replace just the wheels, but I don't think I'm mechanically talented enough to do so.  I would buy another one, but they don't make them any longer.
