How Do I Make My New Rugs Lie Flat?

I ordered a 9' x 12' rug and 2 matching 12' runners by Safeviah (sp?) from QVC. Received them a week ago, and they are really pretty---but they will NOT lie flat! Some of the corners are turned up and there are ripples all over the rugs. I thought maybe they would smooth out some by now, but no.

They are made of polypropylene, but so were the rugs I had before which never had this problem.

Anybody have any suggestions? They are laying on hardwood floors if that makes any difference.
