When i worked I only did the necessary cleaning each day - make the bed - cook & do the dishes that sort of thing, but cleaned a lot on my days off. When we started working 12 hour shifts I was so tired by the time I got home all I did was take a bath & go to bed. However, I had 4 days off to get things done at home. The worst downside of my job was having to switch shifts & work nights. It really messes you up.

Cloning me would be a great idea! There could be "working me" and "housekeeper me". But I want the "housekeeper me" to be a little faster!
I would really like a third split to me "outside maintenance me"!
Then I would be good to go!

My mom was a cleaning machine, and I was conditioned to do the same. That worked fine during my 20's and 30's, but by the time I hit my 40's with teenagers, and a part time job where I worked nights, day, and evening shifts in a span of 5 days, I quickly lowered my standards. I focused solely on keeping my living room, dining room, kitchen and bathrooms clean, laundry done, and cooking for my family.
My kitchen and bathrooms are always clean, I keep my laundry done, and keep clutter from forming. Right now I am thrilled to have 6 clean, dust free ceiling fans, and feel good with that accomplishment. I just don't sweat the need to live in a spotless house.
I may be retired, but I rarely get to enjoy a full day at home. I have appts and obligations the next 5 days, and 2 days next week. I don't enjoy being on the go so much, and when I do get to spend a day at home, I don't walk around looking for something to clean!

I hate to clean house. I find is boring and unfulfilling - would rather do almost anything else. I have never gotten a thrill from a shiny floor. Unfortunately I do have to do it so I try to make it as pain free as possible. I do it in small spurts.

I tackle one project each weekend - bathrooms, bedroom, kitchen, etc.
I've read so much on the subject and I've tried so many different schedules, but in reality, this is the one that works for me.
If I didn't work five days a week it might be different.
ETA: I need to add that I love it! I spent five hours cleaning and rearranging my kitchen this past weekend and only wish I had more time.

It is now just my husband and I, and we both work fulltime, and have a fairly small house, so for us its pretty easy to keep everything clean -The big thing like MominOhio said, putting things back where they belong-that alleviates a lot of unnecssary clutter too. My husband and I are both clean freaks so we both clean and do laundry and yard work, so a little bit at a time......I do not spend my whole weekend cleaning and doing laundry, we prefer to do a little each day. I work 3 minutes from my house, so I can go home at lunch and throw a load into the dryer, and then just fold it when I get home.......I clean my kitchen throughly after dinner every night, so that stays nice and clean. I think a big part of having a neat and clean home is the people living there picking up after themselves and everybody pitching in to help....I can't stand mess or clutter, so for me it's pretty easy to keep everything fairly clean.......I think a lot depends on how many live with you, how many pets you have, etc. It is just my husband and I now, our two daughters are married with their own families, so its much easier......
