High Efficiency laundry detergent question

Hello,

I unexpectedly needed to purchase a new washing machine. I went w/ a top loading high efficiency one. I now have leftover detergent for regular washers.

I did buy a bottle of the HE stuff, but I'm wondering if anyone uses the regular detergent in their HE washers?

What exactly is the difference between the 2 detergents? The caps are the same size, as are the measurement lines inside. Less suds?
