My son's room has a tall double window and I cannot find curtains in the stores that are long enough. Would it look funny to have the curtain rod lower where the curtains would come down to the bottom of the window? The window is from the ceiling to about half way down the wall.

Would that look funny or odd? I'm not sure what to do with it (?) The window looks too long just to have a little valance. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Re: Help with Curtains please.

Try Pottery Barn. They have lengths of 96" and longer.

When DS was little I bought tiered drapes for his bedroom. They consisted of 2 tiers, one short tier that went across the top of the window, the second tier hung midway across the length of the window (where it opened) and a valance over the top tier.

Lots of versatility with that look. Could keep the top open for light while keeping the bottom tier closed for privacy. And short enough that they didn't touch the carpet which meant they stayed cleaner, longer!

I have 2 large windows-1 in the bathroom,1 in a bedroom.

I use a fabric shower curtain in the bathroom. 2 single sheets for the bedroom, just sew a heading in the top. 1 fabric shower curtain might work for a bedroom also.

Re: Help with Curtains please.

I have huge windows and needed a 105" length. I found them at Bed & Bath. I also have used the websites to both Bed & Bath and Altmeyers to search for longer lengths and have had good luck with what I received. Years ago I ordered curtains for the bathrooms from Country Curtains.com which are great. I since have started to receive their catalog. They offer longer lengths, custom options and just the material (if you sew). All of these places also sell the drapery hardware, tie backs, etc. as well. I like that convenience of not chasing all the bits and pieces to get a window done. I also wanted a fabric that was washable but still fit the style of our home.

I have purchased extra long wood blinds from Ikea for the family room. That might be an option to consider. I've seen these at the three places where I shop in addition to the home improvements stores.

Good Luck with your search.

Re: Help with Curtains please.

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I will check Amazon out. I guess I'll try to find something full length unless I could possibly find some tiers that would be suitable. I am so not good with picking out window treatments!

Re: Help with Curtains please.

A relative has the same problem with a window and she applied some type of window application which comes in various designs or just translucent patterns. It allows the light in, but no one can see in the room. She choose some beautiful, stained glass floral pattern and unless you get right up to it, you really cannot tell it's just an application. It's similar to a window static "sticker" (but for large area) and it applies to very clean glass, I am not sure if you need to put something on to make it stick. From outside, it looks very nice! From inside she draped an extremely long scarf around the window frame, all the way around with enough length to puddle on the floor! And when the sun shines through, nice!

Edited to add: She said it was less expensive than a drapery treatment!
