That’s the pics of my room. It’s approx 9.5x10. My bed is a queen. So I need more room. There’s absolutely nothing to do in. Here. I live in Southern California I’m looking to try to spend under a few hundred dollars. I like minimal or whatever. I’m actually super open on designs. I’m a guy btw. I don’t want to but if I need to buy. A new bed I was thinking of a full and sorry for the pics, dogs woke me up at 430 am and I can’t sleep. I’m just looking for more space and if wanna have someone come play some video games they don’t have to sit on the bed. any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help desiging my bed room

I'd start with a new paint job. Go with a light neutral beige, soft grey if you like that look. I have a spare that's painted a soft pistachio green. It's crazy how neutral this color is. I dress up my bedrooms (I have 3, master & 2 spares) with the bedding. Put up neutral drapes, change out the queen for a full, you'll gain space and full sized bedding of course is less costly. There are so many sites for gorgeous bedding at really reasonable price tags. I have a queen in the master and find bedding at tons of places for $60, mostly for less than that even. Put all the clothes in respective dresser drawers and closets and close the doors, keep things neat and orderly, you gain space that way too.

@siloowns,    Will your bed fit the other way? The full bed would be a better choice.   If so, place in under the window.  Take a look at Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn for bedding.  You can also look at Home Goods and Bed, Bath & Beyond.  Compare prices with all four of these places (take your time when selecting)  Also, with places like Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn especially Pottery Barn, you can get free decorating advice.   I suggest a colored comforter because I think it would serve you better.  The black curtains need to go.  Actually, I like white curtains that are slightly sheer (they are still for men).  The problem with some duvets (the cover over a plain comforter) is most of them wrinkle badly unless you purchase a certain fabric.  You may just consider a headboard as it will take up less space. Paint the walls only a soft green or a latte color.  Personally, I would go to Pottery Barn, get free decorating and tell them your budget.  Put the laundry basket in the closet or purchase a rattan look(what baskets are made of). Good luck.

I see that you have dark curtains, which make the room look smaller.  Since there are blinds, I would lose the drapes, and if you need them to darken the room try some of the window tint that you can get from Lowes.  It's just a film that you can cut to fit and goes on with water and you can remove it later if needed.

Keep the closet organized and try to get as much stuff put away if possible.  The height of the closet looks like you could add another shelf above the current one - this can be done cheaply, with just a board and some brackets or even dowels for the legs.  This would give you a little more storage for video games, books, storage or whatever. Clutter makes room look smaller.   And, move the hamper into the closet, that will give more floor space - with a small room, every bit of open space on the floor makes a huge difference.

You can always go with a futon which you could use to sleep on, and it converts to a couch.

Since you are from California, check out the futons that they have at Ikea or even Walmart (or other retailers).  They aren't too expensive (try them out first, some are more comfortable then others) and will give you a lot of extra room plus seating options.  My son lives in a studio apartment and the futon/sectional that he got worked out perfectly.

You definitely need to paint and declutter

I would get new drapes and hang them from floor to ceiling.  That gives the illusion the room is bigger

If you need seating, there are options - futons, beans bags, etc

Re: Help desiging my bed room

Is the window off center?

You might consider placing the bed perpendicular to the window. Hang new curtain panels (just panels not full curtain) on either side of bed a few inches below ceiling to help give some height. You could even use twin sheets! What ever you choose do not make them to voluminous as the room will get swallowed up. Just simple linen look panels on either side.

If you want to paint, Sherwin Williams will give you a paint deck if you ask them so you can look for the neutral color of your choice. Perhaps greige-y color. Benjamin Moore makes a color called Revere Pewter that can take on different hues...You might like to choose a shade or 2 darker for the window wall to accent

Check Target, Walmart, TJMaxx, Marshalls etc for bedding. Again, because room is small, nothing to puffy! If the walls remain neutral then bedding can add the amount of color you want.

More to come...need to look at the pics again and ineed coffee!

Re: Help desiging my bed room

With the bed under the window, if you have room consider a simple bench at the foot of bed. Move the TV to the closet wall. Use peel and stick cable covers to hide the cables if you need to "snake" them around the door back to the cable jack. Using this stuff eliminates the clutter of cable and blends in with door/floor moulding.

Looks like closet is also small, so you need to use the vertical space. I would get a tall vertical tower with shelves (walmart, lowes, HD). I think they are 12" wide. Bins can be purchased to fold/organize ( or just hide) items. The shelf needs to be placed on the left side of closet. Then Install 2 hanging bars. Make sure you space these such that your longest hanging piece of clothing is above the floor and the upper bar allows clearance so that the shirts/ jackets on the top bar are not interfering with bottom bar. Hopefully there is space on the closet floor to accommodate the laundry basket.

Try hard to declutter surfaces. Bedside table(s) can be as simple as a shelf. In this case you will need a wall-mounted light as a shelf would not allow for a lamp.

You are right...things need to be minimalistic in this particular room. Have fun!

Declutter first.

Get rid of the closet door and hang a curtain that will match your bedding and window curtain called a roman blind (it fits inside or just outside the frame so it is cleaner looking and not so puffy), preferably in a light color since it will open the space. This will get rid of the door that is in the way.

You can replace the dresser with an armoire that will hold the TV and have drawers for your clothes or get a high-boy dresser, which is narrower and taller versus the wider and shorter dresser you have now.  Check out your local Facebook freecycle/yard sale page for furniture.  You could even mount the tv and gaming system/DVD player or whatever on the wall.  There are brackets or small shelves for that.  THey do it all the time in small spaces and tiny homes.

Turn your bed so that it is horizontal to the window like you slid it in to fit from wall to wall.  With a new quilt or comforter and covered pillows, it will look more like a couch where you can stack the pillows to reset against and play your games or watch TV.  You could get some ply-wood to wrap with batting and cover with fabric to coordinate, then mount to the walls along the window wall and down the sides to the edge of the bed.  This will make it seem built in and flow better.  Think a built-in bed like in a boat.  You could use boxes to store clothing and what not under the bed.  You could even put the bed on risers, you can get these at WalMart, so it sits higher up for more storage and easier using it like a couch. LIke the below pics except on three sides of the bed.  If there is room on the ends since the bed isn't as long as the room is wide, you can fill that space with some ply-wood boxes that are upholstered to match the walls but just do the tops and the front side that shows.
