Hi all. My best friend and her hubs came for the weekend. Long story short, she wears very expensive perfume (shower gel and lotion, too) that I cannot stand. She left 48 hours ago and I have been trying to rid my house of that odor ever since. I have washed the sheets, bedspread, pillows, and valances in "their" room; I put my Grandmother's quilts out in the sun today to "air" because they had absorbed the smell. I have also sprayed (numerous times) first Febreze then Citrus Magic in that room and the rest of the house. I have an Electrolux air cleaner running in the room and put out bowls of vinegar to help absorb the odor. I've also had the windows open and a fan running to pull air through the room but nothing is helping!!!
The odor is not bacteria based, so sprays that kill bacteria and eliminate smell don't work. Help me, help me -- please! The smell is so strong that baking soda and charcoal won't help....I don't think. The floor is hardwood, so carpet is not an issue. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Boy, that must be a lot perfume. How do you stand it when she is there?

I don't think anything but time will eliminate some perfumes. I can't even imagine what her house smells like. I once ordered a jacket from QVC that apparently someone had tried on and returned and it reeked of perfume smell. I washed it, had it cleaned, hung in garage, sprayed with all sorts of sprays and finally the scent went away. I liked it or would have returned it. Good luck to you.

I feel your pain. I remember telling a house guest that I was allergic to her fragrance. I don't think our relationship was ever the same. Some people just don't understand it is like breathing a strong chemical. You probably have the smell in your nose and it won't go away for a while. Try to get out of the house for a few hours. Oh...and smell some coffee beans. That seems to help erase the smell.

Not sure if it will work, but maybe try something made for pet odor?
Maybe Poo Pourri? Kind half kidding on that but who knows?
