I agree that their design shows devolved into a steady diet of the same look and it's essentially the look they employ over and over in their magazine... Moreover, the current crop of shows that feature some kind of decor, usually as part of a flip or rehab, tend also to feature the same 'look' which isn't one I aspire to... I'm really tired of the whole focus being on centempo-shabby, quirky, bilious colors, repurposed junk (in my opinion) and DIY... I'd really like to see the return of some nicer design and decorating... Personally, I'm less interested in the IKEA aesthetic, it's time for Ethan Allen... or at least for more of a mix.

I think HGTV jumped the shark when they started going for the more far out designers (Antonio Project, Myles Of Styles, Color Splash etc) instead of how people decorate in the real world.....I think it caused a lot of people to tune out which HGTV interpreted incorrectly as viewers not wanting design shows...we just didn't want THEIR DESIGNERS!!! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I do miss David Bromstad though--it's been so long since I've seen him, I almost forgot about him! I think he's an incredibly talented designer--and HGTV gave his show such a dippy name--Color Splash.

I liked him, he seemed like a good guy and he might well have been talented, but I guess, most of his 'designs' struck me as 'dorm room chic'...

They buy these rundown foreclosure homes at auction sight unseen. they fix them up and flip them at large profits but they whine through the entire process and then when they buy the next house they start the complaining about how they will "go under" if they can't get their money back but they have made a ton of money from flipping these houses.

you are obviously talking about Tarek and Christina Flip or Flop but what you have decribed is like nothing i have seen before on the show! Tarek is like many men and always questions the money she wants to spend however i have yet to see Christina whine through an entire process of flipping! and i know i have seen every show of theirs several times. it's one of the only shows on HGTV that i watch now.

they gave up on their forum board just like they did on their channel. ALL of the good shows are gone. The only show I really enjoy anymore is Flip or Flop with Tarek and Christina. I use to love HGTV and shows like Income Property, Property Virgins, First Time Buyers, Buy Me, Curb Appeal, Unsellables and you know the rest of the older shows? When those people win Desgin Star, where is their show?? I use to like them, but they are gone. This like the Food Network is no longer appealing as it once was. I guess people like seeing people stab others in the back on Cutthroat Kitchen and the Rich people look for homes internationally....

I too miss the older shows. I agree with Spurt about some of the other designers being way out there on their decorating taste as well. I stopped watching their shows. I would love to see more landscaping shows but not with all the building of decks but more like the plants and such. Maybe one of these days they will figure it all out.

Their coffee filter lampshade was the final draw for me {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

When you go to your local furniture stores---be it Ethan Allen.....Haverty, Bass, Star, La-Z-Boy the majority of what they showcase is the REAL TRADITIONAL style!!! You'd think HGTV would duplicate what the market offers instead of trying to appear "above it all" or go for things that are avant-garde or looks like you are living in a doctor's office....

I thought David Bromstad was very personable and charming, but I just didn't care for his ultra modern style designs.....I have seen him as a mentor on one of those remodeling contest shows....

I did enjoy Curb Appeal and the host, John Gidding was a hunk {#emotions_dlg.laugh}Wink. I think he partnered with HSN...don't know if he still does......

And don't even get me started on the Food Network and Cut Throat Kitchen...{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}
