2,000 foot high wall of dirt, winds at 70mph, heavy rain (right now)

Oh my gosh that looks scary and wildly beautiful at the same time. I hope no one is hurt and not much damage done. We've had enough of this kind of thing around the country with floods etc.

@Desertdi ..........
You live in that area....right?
Stay safe.
We recently had severe t-storms roll through here a couple of weeks ago with 70+ mph winds. The clean-up afterwards was a p-i-t-a. I can't imagine the added mess with the dust/mud too. Hope the added rain will wash most of it away for you!

Yes, and thank you. First really "bad one" in years. I still have power, tho(!!) Temp dropped from 101 to 75° in minutes.
Airport closed with some damage. Some flooding. Another storm heading this way...weatherman can't be sure of the time... di

How awful and scary! I've heard of dust storms but never heard of a haboob!
Do they give warnings like with tornados?
I hope people were able to take cover and stay safe!

No warning on this one. There was "some" rain predicted in the area...but the dust storm came out of nowhere.
Many traffic accidents reported...but no details at this time. So many planes diverted to Las Vegas that it closed their airport, too. di

It was awesome! We all went outside to watch it approach, but went back inside when it got too close.
Crazy driving home after the heavy rains started!

Have been through several haboobs here in the So. Ca desert since moving here 17 years ago. First one was on 9/11, sky got dark like a nuclear winter. My flag on the flagpole ended up tattered and was found a block away. The second bad one was coming home from dinner out and having to drive back home with sand blasting around us. Got really dark, with poor visibility. Really scary. There have been a few others that were not as bad, but they are quite nerve wracking and leave a real mess behind of piles of sand and debris. Thank goodness no one was ever hurt and no property was ever damaged.
