Congrats! It's a wonderful feeling..isn't it?!
I never did such a "COMPLETE" purge of the house before. I actually went back around a 2nd time...just wasn't quite satisfied.
I still can't believe I'm finished! Everything has a home...no boxes on the floor...in the living areas upstairs or the basement...neat and tidy...LOVE it! I don't have to pretend to wear horse blinders anymore...![]()
The bonus for me is I can walk in any room of the house and feel a "Zen" of peace. It is also an AWESOME feeling being able to view circulars in the Sunday papers...go through them all and say I don't want or need anything...watch shopping shows and not even an inkling of desire...no joke!
Since I went through everything, I can see I have all the clothes I need, don't want anymore handbags...not needing anything in the kitchen, bath or bedroom..not even home decor! I certainly have bought a lot of that since last Fall, but got rid of about 4-5 times more than I bought when I purged.
Today I just finished cleaning all of our 300+ pieces of artglass...washed them all and so pretty to see them sparkle again. I do it twice a year too (once again this year before I put out Fall decor).
DH and I will now stick to "when something comes in...something goes out"! I told him I won't do a purge like that again...it took nearly 5 months to complete the process....including washing walls and shampooing carpets as I went...even finished Spring decorating a couple of weeks ago...WHEW!
Now I will be removing debris in the gardens and sowing seeds...read some books I haven't had time for in quite awhile...
AHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh...

You are my hero! What a wonderful feeling it must be to have accomplished all this. And you sound like you are on the right track about not repeating the cycle. I like the "one thing in, one thing out rule", something I should be living by!

Bless your heart! We ALL have the power to succeed...believe that
Also believe that for me, some days during the process it took intestinal fortitude to continue...it was an exhausting journey! Many trips to the charities...Salvation Army, Goodwill, and our local homeless shelter. It blew my mind how many times I filled my car...12 and my husband's truck twice for larger things!!!
If you had seen our home before & after, you would not believe THAT much stuff had been removed, but trust me...it did!
Some folks hang on to a lot of junk that just needs to be thrown in the trash. For us, about 90% of what we purged went to charities!!! We never had a problem throwing out stuff as things broke, became worn out or unusable like "hoarders" do.
I kept a clean home, but Oh how all our closets, drawers, cabinets were stuffed to the gills...and the amount of "stuff" in the basement was getting crazy...especially after my Dad died, inheriting several pieces/things on top of our own belongings.
It got REAL tiring having to move 5 things to get to what I wanted...UGH! I'm just so glad I did it during the Fall/winter so I can enjoy being outdoors during the Spring/Summer and not still feel the weight of the chore still at hand while gardening too.The burden is lifted and it just feels great!
I hope I have inspired others to do the same too

Unless someone else is going to look at and enjoy those photos, there is no reason to scan and keep them. it just doesn't make sense.

Believe it or not, I didn't purge one photo...not a single pic in our purges. Whether we look at them or not, I can't seem to part with those memories. I was thinking of scanning, but chose not to since there are so many. I also didn't purge any of our cards.
I made a "home" in a cabinet for both and I am happy

Susan Louise,
I am another who cannot part with my photo's, nor will I ever scan them. I like having them in albums and I enjoy being able to pull them out and go through the albums with family members. Just seems so much more personal.
I have a built in shelving unit in my master closet. I keep all of my albums on the shelves and they are readily accessible, but not in the way at all. I also have cards from my dear grandmothers in their shaky handwriting and many cards from my mother with precious notes written in them. I simply will not part with them and it's not like they are in the way.
