Granite Backsplash Questions

We are in the process of getting quotes for remodeling out kitchen. We've selected someone to custom make the cabinets. I am going with granite counter tops and don't know what to do for a back-splash. I'm not crazy about tile so I want it to be the same granite as the counter. I'm told that 4" is "standard" but we are thinking of going with 8' for a variety of reasons. Does anyone here have granite back-splash and if so what height is it at? This project is far more difficult that I thought it would be....so many decisions to be made! I thought maybe folks here could share their experiences with granite. TIA.
