General Hospital Soap Questions

I watch General Hospital everyday. Yet I still missed something a few weeks back. Why, exactly, did Jerry Jax contaminate the Port Charles water? It seemed like he himself was sick. If he had the antidote, why didn't he just take it? And is he really dead or are they assuming he is dead?

Also, I am sad about the departure of Steve Burton. I am wondering/thinking that he will lose his life to save Sam's baby. What do you think? I will really miss him on the show. I actually had dream about him the other day! But I will keep that to myself!
