GOOD YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR HOUSE PLANTS

Love getting tips from "Tanner the Planter".   That's the youtube channel of Tanner Mitchell, who along with his wife Erika, owns a plant store, "Famous in Oregon".

He's good at helping you troubleshoot any problems your plants might have, and also just giving them the best possible environment for thriving in the home.

I like his videos on dividing plants, since I'm always having to do that with my burgeoning house plants!

A sample page from his site below.  He also has a new book,  "For the Love of Houseplants-- Caring for and Keeping Plants With Confidence."

His videos are short, and pack a lot of information and help for specific plant situations.  I never knew that see-through pots were good for orchids.  ( Not that I've ever had an orchid...)

I've always had a weakness for plant books -- they are kind of soothing, the way that cookbooks can be!  Anything that enhances the home environment is, I suppose.

And the Mitchells have just the right touch, with their practical ideas and their busy plant store in a charming old house in Prosper, Texas.  ( Not sure why the store is named "Famous in Oregon").

Anyway,  "Tanner the Planter" is a good channel for 'all things plants'.

Re: GOOD YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR HOUSE PLANTS

Thanks @Oznell .  I will take a look.. I love reading about plants, flowers, landscapes, and am always looking for new ideas.  My husband bought me several books for Christmas including one on container gardening, and one from Monty Don, who has a show in England called Gardener's World.  The photos are beautiful; just the thing to get me through the snowy, cold months of February and March.  Thanks again for the recommendation!

@Blondie59 ,  what great-sounding books you got for Christmas!  The kind to get lost in.  I love anything about landscaping or gardening too.  And it's not like I'm a big gardener or anything.

I have ever since I was a kid-- somehow stumbled on the wonderful books by a Brit, Beverley Nichols, who famously wrote "Down the Garden Path" in the 1930's.  He combined wit and personal narratives with his garden adventures in a number of books.

Tanner Mitchell's book and youtube channel might be too "basic" for you,  since a lot of it ( I love the channel, but haven't read the book) sounds like it's aimed at beginners.  But if you're like me, I can never get enough of good info on that whole world.  I love my little array of house plants...

Re: GOOD YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR HOUSE PLANTS

Hi @Oznell !  I am still quite a novice at gardening, but experimenting and trying new plantings is half the fun, I think 😊. I am a bit of a traditionalist outdoors:  geraniums, roses, petunias; coleus and impatiens in the shade.  This year, I am venturing out and growing dahlias, Portulaca and a variety of wildflowers.  Inside, I'm a bit of a scaredy cat, mostly pothos, spider plants and snake plants.  Anyway, I love working in the dirt...it's very therapeutic, and it cuts down on our wine bill. LOL.

have a great weekend and thanks again for the YouTube channel.

Thank you for the information @Oznell - I may pre-order that book for a gift. I don't have houseplants but may check out the video(s).

Re: GOOD YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR HOUSE PLANTS

I've been watching a guy on YT who takes sad looking plants and gives them love by replanting and pruning etc. This guy pounds on the sides of the new planted pots to settle the dirt, instead of packing it down around the plant. Cracks me up---

Was at a local grocery store that had a huge amount of boston ferns hanging outside, they were so green and full--brought me back to when, in my 20's,  my 2 other roomies and I had a place together and plants filled our apt and most were those ferns!! I have an old xmas cactus now--a few of them, but a couple are 150 years old --got them from my MIL,over 40 years ago,  who got them from her grandma----and they are doing pretty good.
