My Whirlpool front loader is about7-8 years old now, and I still like it a lot.  It apparently has some features that some of you say are missing from front loaders.  Mine does have  a soak cycle.  It has a button that can pause the machine, and by holding the button longer, will unlock the door to add clothes, although I haven't tried to do that once the suds start appearing in the window.

My primary reason for wanting a front loader was my assumption that it would help preserve clothing.  It doesn't agitate as vigorously or otherwise cause unnecessary wear-and-tear , friction or fading on fabrics.    At least that's what I think, anyway.  So far I'm happy with owning the machine, especially for washing certain lingerie, bedding and linens.

Thanks for your input.  I'll look at the Whirlpool as well as the Frigidaire. My ne dryer is Whirlpool.

My 28 year old Kenmore is still working, but I don't want to be caught without a washer if it goes suddenly.

It doesn't pay to put more money into it.

@novamc1. Another advantage that has been a lifesaver for me is having the front loaders on a pedestal. So much better with my spinal issues not having to dig and lift them out of a top loader and bend to a dryer on the floor. What a difference!
