We are almost done staining the railings on our deck and will not use the same on the floor. We just wanted the railings to match our privacy fence and we want the floor treated differently. This is not a new deck, if that matters, but the wood is is wonderful shape and we want to keep it that way. Anyone used Cabot or Pittsburg Ultra and have strong opinions one way or another?

My last home had a large deck that I stained a couple times. I used Cabot or Behr stain. I stained the railings/spokes the same color as the house and did the floor in clear. I didn't have a preference in brand.

keeping wood decks looking good is a lot of work! My husband built a lovely deck out back about 20 some years ago. We have a deck company come out once a year and keep it repaired and do whatever they need as far as staining and cleaning. Now that we are both almost 60, it is just not worth a back ache or a heart attack to have my husband do it himself. Years ago when we we younger we did keep them up ourselves. Enjoy your lovely deck this summer!Smile

I sooooo agree with how much work they are to maintain, but love the extra living space they provide almost 6 months of the year where we live. Just want to find the best stuff to make the work worthwhile.

I am thinking a clear finish, too, as I do not want the floor to really be a focal point. That way the stuff we have on the deck will show up better, too.
