I get too easily bored and would tear down or change the feature wall.  Paint does it for me.  I don't like wallpaper either.

@stevieb

I have a lady in my Canasta club who is from "old money" and she does not spend it unwisely.  She wanted a whole wall of stone and a fireplace therein.  She owns a lot of property in a couple other states and she hauled stones from one of the riverbeds on their property to her home here. She said it took 9 trips to get them hauled in her trusty pick-up truck but she was not going to pay for something she had on her property.  She also had a lot of hired help. They are very large stones, not the small gravel like you normally see in a riverbed.  That wall is beautiful. It's a game room and bar/lounge.

@Desert Lily.  This is my favorite feature wall in what was described as a "modern farmhouse".  lol.  Note how the wall cleverly seems ro extend the stunning view out the window.  The crest of the mountain continues across the wall, for instance.1000008373.jpg

It is very nice. Are we to understand, though, that a wall sized piece of art or a wall with a mural is now a 'feature wall'... Woman Wink

I don't have any feature walls with texture and different materials. Those kinds of treatments are probably difficult to change. I do use paint as a feature. Paint is an easy way to add interest and contrast, and it's more easily changed if you decide you're tired of it.

I've painted one wall in a room a different color. I've had wallpaper on just one wall too. I also use a different paint color beneath the chair rail molding in our dining room. My entry way used to painted a different color than my living room, but I recently painted again and decided to use the same color for both spaces.

I don't have any feature walls in main parts of my home.  Aside from the powder room my roomsare painted in a neutral color.    The features of most rooms are the windows, fireplace, furniture placement.  Those features are accented by window treatments or upholstered furniture in interesting colors or patterns.  I do have feature walls in my husband's office and DD's second bedroom (yes she has two with a jack and jill bathroom between them).  I do have feature ceilings in the dining room and music room that are across the hall from one another.

I'd rather use an accent color on one major wall. Get bored with it and another color goes up. Simpler than most other options.
