Re: Fall Has Arrived in the South!

This is an authentic picture of what happened in Raleigh NC last winter when there was an unexpected icy snowfall of about 3-4" ... some people were stranded in their cars for more than 10 hours. Needless to say, the city had some explaining to do, and vowed it would never happen again. I guess that remains to be seen ... if there is ever any more snow in central NC! This was posted on a local news channel's website:

Snow storm Feb. 11-12, 2014 -Of the thousands of snow photos taken in North Carolina on Wednesday, one of the most talked about and shared shots came from a Raleigh woman who captured the chaos on Glenwood Avenue.

The photo, which shows a car on fire as vehicles struggle nearby to get up a snow-slicked hill on Glenwood Avenue, quickly spread across the Internet and was featured on several sites, including CNN, The Huffington Post, Gawker, Slate and Reddit.

Re: Fall Has Arrived in the South!

It was in the 40's this morning in Albuquerque and people were really bundled up at the balloon fiesta (I watched on TV). The balloons never launched though. Although there was no wind on the ground, several hundred feet up it was too breezy. The don't fly if it's above 10 mph. It was a beautiful, cloudless morning though.

The aspens are at the peak of their full glory. A friend and I are taking a backroad trip through the mountains this week and will end at a favorite restaurant in Santa Fe.

Re: Fall Has Arrived in the South!

It's been raining and is about 50 in Buffalo.

I had to bring in a lot of plants that summer on the front balcony. Only one (a polka dot plant) bit the dust.

It shouldn't freeze tonight and will gradually warm up this week...I'm not ready to say ""goodbye"" to my pots of Giant Coleus yet!

last winter we had 21 days below zero {#emotions_dlg.crying} I fell in my work parking lot on ice & wacked my head. We had huge gas bills, I could go on but I'll try not to remember more.

I'm so envious of those of you with cooler temperatures. We aren't supposed to go above 85 today in SoCal, but the last few days have gotten up to 90. It's hard to get excited about autumn decorating when I'm melting from the heat.

I have to agree about the weather. I like the cooler weather. Last week was nice and this week back to the heat. This morning when I was walking my dog, it was overcast and cool. We will be getting cooler weather soon.

Re: Fall Has Arrived in the South!

{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} It was sunny and 65 degrees here in east central Florida when I woke up this am. I turned off the AC, flung open the windows, and was so happy! We have been having almost 2 full weeks of all day, on and off, rains prior to this...everyone in the area was depressed all at once and there are standing rain puddles in places that don't normally have them...

I'm so happy for some relief from the gray skies, rain, and insufferable heat.

So grateful for the cooler temperature and low humidity today... blue skies and numerous sailboats on the water. Loving it!!

Hi AnotherView2: I'm in South Florida and this morning it started out beautiful here too but by late morning, I had to close up and turn the air back on. I was so happy for the few hours we had. I'm so sick of this heat, but had my coffee out by the pool this morning and it was awesome!
