Re: FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

@QVCisFun ,  that is a beautiful room you found!  That's what kills me--  he was so incredible, and so versatile.  He did all those old-school, yet often daring-for-their-time rooms for the likes of Astors and Rockefellers, but he could do anything, from modern to almost primitive, to deco, near-surrealistic, cozy colonial, and on and on...

One of my favorites of his was this living room he did for a long-time, somewhat eccentric client, Nancy Pyne.   In the distant past, the 60's, he had done famously ornate rooms for her, but this is for her down-sized, pared-back retirement phase.  This doesn't show the whole room, so you don't see the cozy sofas, etc.  I've posted it before, and can never get over how good it is, in so many ways...

A smattering of other projects of his I've liked--

This was his own, widely admired and published sitting room, with its intricate wall treatment-- love the pale blue, framed in gilt...

Intimate--

Not sure if it was he, or another artist who painted this very accurate picture of one of his rooms--

Love this art-filled home office, ahead of its time...

WOW!  Carolyne Roehm does beautiful work.  @Oznell , I think her talent is in the same stratosphere as two other people you have highlighted in the forums in the past 12+ months:  Ann Getty (THE-ANN-AND-GORDON-GETTY-AUCTION) and Joe Minton (90-YEAR-OLD-INTERIOR-DESIGNER-AT-HOME).  In their own styles all three of them have produced very beautiful, tasteful, rich, luxurious, comfortable, museum-like, magnificent surroundings.

Thank you for all your forum posts @Oznell .  Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

@Oznell  This basket in very similar to one I did for a chair on my small covered front porch. While much more of a country setting with the country chair, a wreath above the chair, and a sign. I love the mix in this basket.

What reall impressed me the most was the astonishing look of this house on the outside. So unique.

Re: FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

Thank you for the additional photos  @Oznell .  The classic room shown in the book in the last photo is nice.  The other rooms mostly don't appeal to me although there are some features that are interesting.

Not sure if a photo showing more of the sitting room would give a different impression, but just going by how the room looks from the vignette, the dark ceiling makes the room look like it has no ceiling, a very interesting effect.

I like how he created a wall-within-a-wall with the gilt-framed blue area and hung a picture in it.  Or looking at it another way, it is sort of like he set the wall with a wallcloth and put a picture on it, the way a person might set a table with a tablecloth and put a vase on it.

I would love to see that ceiling you mentioned with the exotic silver tea paper that glowed.

Interesting perspective, as always, @QVCisFun ,  on that 'layered' sitting room wall!  Always fun to get your take.

@Oznell There are some beautiful ware on display!   My home is decorated with country living and suits my lifestyle.   I think I would be on edge that someone would mess my stuff up if I had all this.

Re: FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

@Oznell :  While looking for a photo that showed more of Albert Hadley's sitting room ceiling, I came across this photo that may be a different view of his sitting room.  Although there are a few differences from your photo (e.g., carpet color) it looks like it could be his sitting room (or maybe an adjacent room?).  Anyhow, now seeing more of the ceiling, not sure if I'm still getting the impression that it looks like there is no ceiling.  On the other hand, with that overhead light fixture looking like a full moon, maybe he was going for that no-ceiling effect?

Below is another design of his that looks like there is no ceiling.  This photo is of a library he designed for Brooke Astor's Manhattan apartment.  The walls are described as lacquered oxblood walls with brass trim.

@QVCisFun ,  very interesting how that ceiling seems to recede before our very eyes!

As for Brooke Astor's red room, that was considered a tour de force of his.  I think it's striking, even though I'm not that fond of all red-- I like a "little" red.  Here's another view of it.  It did seem to suit her personality:

Beautiful home.  It's an understatement to say she has some nice decorating touches.
