FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

This time of year, it's fun to see what Carolyne Roehm has done, decorating her New York apartment and her stately Connecticut house.  She was once an assistant to designer Oscar de la Renta, who mentored her.   Later, she launched a design career of her own.  Fashion designer Bill Blass called her "the ultimate tastemaker".

Have shown bits of her Connecticut house here before, "Weatherstone".   Love the symmetry, love the mellow stone!

A few of her autumn-colored vignettes--

Love this image below, so rich and deep!  This is so evocative of late November, with the rusty candle, burnt orange roses, and that incredible china with a sort of "Etruscan style" pattern...

Her Christmases have varied from year to year, and she sometimes does a white and ethereal look, and sometimes a traditional, red and green.

Some chalky white samples--

What interesting sculptures of musical instruments, and lions...

The crisp woodland tables, with chalky deer, are among my favorites--

Here below the deer are sparkly ones, not chalky...

Cozy fireside table--

The paperwhites in urns, and pale blue glassware, stunning.

Some of her traditional Christmas color samples:

What a neat room, with chocolatey brown walls.  Believe it or not, I think this double height room is in her New York apartment, not in Weatherstone!   The chocolate velveteen walls go a long way toward warming it up...

These adorable doggies go well with Christmas colors....

The huge tub of red apples, and the red books, have a dramatic simplicity--

Don't we all have oversize antique globes, flanking a set of pillar-fronted French doors and room-sized silver candelabra?

She won't need to add much Christmas decor to her library, it already has a holiday air, with those colors!

Carolyne Roehm sure has a lot to work with, what with that incredible Weatherstone, and her New York digs.   She has exquisite taste, in my opinion, no matter what direction her decorating instincts take her.

Much of her decor is beautiful and very appealing.  The table settings are exquisite.  The library is my favorite, stunning furnishings and that wood is eye catching.  I also admire the room with the French doors, those lovely globes, columns.  I find all the floral decor so lovely and adds color to the rooms.  All in all I find the design and decor of the room just so impressive!!!!

Have a very happy enjoyable Thanksgiving!!!!

@Oznell  I love the deer!  The fruit arrangements are similar to those in Colonial Williamsburg (where I live).
A neighbor used to design and decorate for the houses. She does beautiful ones outside on a table. But real deer are outside.

Quite lovely!

I would imagine, though, that she has some professional assistance for both design and decorating.

So many beautiful vibrant colors. Love the red tablecloth and flowers.

That white table with blue glasses? is very etherial looking.

Anything with deer, I love.

This one

reminds me of that very funny scene in The Birdcage where the parents are looking at the Greek bowls trying to figure out what they are seeing while Robin Williams and Nathan Lane look on horrified and slop the soup into the bowls lol!!

@Oznell.  I wonder if the equestrian painting is an A.J. Munnings?

She has beautiful taste and her arrangements are exquisite,  without a single ginger jar being used.  I love the deer and the yellow flowers in t h e pewter bowl.

Re: FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

WOW!  Carolyne Roehm does beautiful work.  @Oznell , I think her talent is in the same stratosphere as two other people you have highlighted in the forums in the past 12+ months:  Ann Getty (THE-ANN-AND-GORDON-GETTY-AUCTION) and Joe Minton (90-YEAR-OLD-INTERIOR-DESIGNER-AT-HOME).  In their own styles all three of them have produced very beautiful, tasteful, rich, luxurious, comfortable, museum-like, magnificent surroundings.

Thank you for all your forum posts @Oznell .  Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Re: FALL, TRANSITIONING TO WINTER

@1Snickers ,  I didn't know that you lived there!   That is one of our favorite areas ever--  the history, the extraordinary architecture, plus I love the tranquil, woodsy surrounds.  How do you like living there?  Do you find yourself taking advantage of all the various attractions?  I suppose like anywhere, it's easy to almost take for granted where you live, but that part of Virginia is so very special!  Would love to hear you expound on it...

@QVCisFun ,  you never fail to amaze me with your visual memory, wow.   Hadn't really thought about it but couldn't agree with you more, that Carolyne Roehm, Ann Getty and Joe Minton have (had) that one-of-a-kind aesthetic sense, and the means and ability to translate it into classic, but liveable rooms.  Another one like that was Furlow Gatewood, and to some extent, Julia Reed, who wasn't a designer per se, but had that fresh, unerring taste guiding her in her rooms....
