I've noticed that empty frames hanging on walls, and placed on floors leaning against walls seem to be "in".What do you think, like it? or not?

A frame is meant to outline or enclose something of interest. If left empty, its purpose is not served. The framer is calling attention to .....nothing.

Personally, I don't care for the empty frame look. I like to decorate with pretty things, but
to each his own.

If I hung an empty frame on the wall, people would think I'd lost my mind !!!

I don't like it at all. I love beautiful artwork, and an empty frame is not art. I haven't seen that done in a long time.

Frames are not just utilitarian or practical just to hang the art. Some frames are art in themselves. I have an extraordinarily talented frame-maker that made three frames for me that I have hung, empty, on a wall in a short hall in my townhome. They are intricate and are designed as art, even though you could put a photo or other artwork inside. That hall looks beautiful, and I have friends that have "stolen" this idea.
I love it.
[Would I do this with just a normal/plain frame of wood, Lucite, or metal? Not at all.]

I love beautiful empty frames, particularly leaning against each other and overlapping.

It reminds me of the frame that the people in the show Friends had around their door peep hole in their apartment.

that would drive me insane------too much clutter and what does an empty frame represent except that it is, well----empty. I just got rid of a ton of empty frames----

I haven't heard about empty frames as decor but I certainly wouldn't follow it. As other posters have stated, what is the point ! I have many framed pictures in my home and can't imagine just having a bunch of frames with nothing in them. It is a matter of taste but in my opinion it is silly and senseless.
