I purchased the 4 boxed candle set and immediatly wrote a 5 star review, as they were boxed so beautifully, smelled so good even in the box, and believed Jill about how wonderful they were. Thought since they had a Slatkin connection, they would be the same. Now, I wish I could take that 5 star back. The scent does not fill the house as his did, but that is okay. But, I am disappointed in the tunneling. His never did that. I burn for the amount of time you are supposed to...1 hour for every inch in diameter of the jar and still got tunneling. Someone in the reviews mentioned they used a candle topper and theirs did not tunnel. Since I have about 20 candle toppers from the old Virginia line of candles I guess I will try that. I would send these back if not for such high shipping charges to return. Has anyone experienced this problem and what are your thoughts on this line?

Oh, dear. I'm so disappointed to hear this. I ordered a box to give as Christmas gifts. I hope others will respond to your post and share their experience.

you have to burn a candle to a full wax pool everytime you light it or you will get tunneling.

By that do you mean that melted wax needs to be touching all sides?

That is what I expect from a good candle. The candle should be liquid across the entire top. I always read if you burn an hour for every inch of the holder across, it would not tunnel. Guess I just need to watch and make sure it has melted all the way across. I will still try the candle topper and watch the next 3 of these E.D. candles.

I suspect that many people wrote reviews before actually burning these. I experienced the same thing. The cold scent was nice but the burning throw was minimal and they tunneled. I know the ins and outs of burning candles and after 3-4 hours a small candle that size should certainly have a fully melted wax pool. It was never going to happen on the two I burned. I seldom write a poor review, but I did on these and returned mine. By the way, I marked that they were defective and I was refunded my original shipping. After the presentation, I felt totally honest stating that.

I was thinking about returning these myself, after the first one tunneled. Glad to know they gave a refund on everything. Should not have to pay to ship back. I believe I will return my last 3, due to the fact they should not do that. Too much waste. When you did not burn Harry Slatkin candles to a full melt one time, they would do a full melt the next time. I never had any waste with his line of candles. Thank goodness I have a closet stash of his candles. Was hoping these would be a good replacement for when his are gone.

Ellen is in the entertainment business not the candle buisness. I buy my candles from Candle companies exclusively.

Since I had purchased these candles for gifts I was not going to burn one myself, but after this topic and reading the reviews on line, I decided that I needed to try one before I could decide whether to gift them or not. I chose to light the "peppermint bark" and the scent is perfect, IMO. I kept it lit for about four hours and it burned perfectly. I did not use a topper because I needed to know how it was without one since I am gifting the other three and the recipients may not have toppers. I would buy these candles again.
