A year or two ago I bought the DC-40. I have a dog, and I was impressed with the suction, but def NOT impressed with the bulky, pain in the you know "attachment" hose.
Right away I noticed that although it was picking up the dog hair, it was leaving threads, etc. A couple of months ago , I noticed big problems with the pick up. Knowing that the filters need to be cleaned occasionally, I got out the directions and proceeded to that.
OMG. This was a night mare. Then they have to dry for 24 hours. Then I noticed that loads of hair were on the brush bar. Got out my box cutter and went to town. Two hours later, mission accomplished.
My Orek might have a bag, but I never had to maintain it like this! A man def designed this.
Do you have this model? What do you think?

I have Dysons and really love them. But recently I purchased the DC40 and hated it. I traded up for the DC41 and it rocks big time!
I have a couple of DC25 Ball models and really like them a lot. They are wonderful but, with these, they made the canister much smaller and the cord shorter.
With the DC41 the canister is much larger and the cord much longer, PLUS it's an all-around excellent machine. But that DC40 was just made to be super lightweight and it also has a lot less suction than the DC41 to boot. I was glad that Dyson took care of me and sent me the DC41 in its place. They even sent a work order to the UPS Store of my choice so that all I had to do was bring the DC40 and all the attachments in for them to pack and ship. As soon as I sent the tracking number to my Dyson rep, she sent me the DC41. I received it before they even got the old one.

I have a Dyson(forget the model) and also a reconditions Electrolux. Both of them have filters which can be cleaned(and canisters which can be easily be rinsed out). When bagless vacuums first came out, I had two, a Eureka and Phantom they both had HEPA filters which needed to be replaced and for what they cost after buying a couple you could just have gone out and bought a new vacuum. Plus the canisters where hard to clean out and dirt would get trapped where washing them out was a pain. So I went back to bagged vacuums, until now.

On 12/31/2013 Yumagirl said: I thought I was the only one who hated my Dyson! It is so heavy and cumbersome, I dread vacuuming more than I used to! Hate all the dust that wafts out when I empty the canister too. My sister just purchased new carpet and was told not to use a Dyson or the warranty would be void. When we bought new carpeting, the sales person told us the cheaper carpet couldn't handle a Dyson.......pretty good selling point to upgrade your carpet huh? However a Dyson has challenged this claim legally.
