Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

I have a Dyson Animal Canister and a Dyson Ball Upright. HATE THEM BOTH. The canister doesn't pick up very well and it's annoying pulling it around behind me. The upright is unbelievably heavy and clunky, while it picks up well, it's just too much of a pain in the you-know-what to drag out and use.

So I picked up the Shark upright handheld similar to the Dyson TSV that was just on. Target's price was $159. No shipping. No waiting. WOW that machine is a dream! Easy to use, right around 7 pounds. Love the way the top disconnects from the wand and you can snap the top/motor right into the bottom piece and do the stairs in a snap! That was another issue with the canister - lugging that bugger up the stairs one at a time and fighting with the stiff hose.

I did all the floors with the Shark when I got it and was amazed at all the stuff, dirt, hair, etc. that I had to empty from the canister on the Shark. It's a shame I got caught up in the hype of the Dyson and spent all that money on them over the course of the last few years and now they'll sit in a closet out of sight out of mind.

Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

Wow Finally got my BB&B Delivery of the Powered Liftaway and I am impressed and that is after owning six Sharks in the last seven years. To say I am impressed is an understatement especially after using it in a room that I left as it was after cleaning it with the DC 65.

I wanted to see if it was able to get anything left behind by the Dyson and after a few passes I looked down and was surprised as the dust cup was filling up.

The headlight is bright and oh so useful and the steering on both carpet and flooring is great and on carpet it is almost self propelled in the upright mode and in the liftaway mode it totally is self propelled. On the flooring as opposed to the DC 65 which drove like a tank it maneuvered like a fine sport car.

Not only is the construction great with useful tools including the caddy, but also included is a really good sized attachment bag.

I wasn't impressed with Dyson either. When the attachments were on, there was no suction. Their customer service was terrible. I tried phone calls and e-mail. I now have a Miele which is perfect--suction with all attachments and good customer service.

As I mentioned initially, I also have a Miele but the suction through the hose of the powered lift away is far stronger than the Miele even when set to 1200 watts. Of course since the Miele is a bagged vacuum, it loses more suction as the bag fills up but even with a new bag, the Miele does not come close except when the Shark is on its LOWEST power setting.

Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

Wow after 1 week I am thinking this new Shark may be my last vacuum I ever purchase unless Shark makes one with more improvements including auto rewind. The suction is amazing and my floors look better than they have in a very long time. So glad I returned the DC65.

Love my 20 year old Oreck - still works as well as the day I got it.

Me too. I get the bags on Amazon. My Oreck was free because a family member got a new one and I inherited the old one. If I could find a highly rated cordless vacuum, I might consider getting one because I'm clumsy and have tripped over the cord more than once.

I couldn't survive without my Dyson! Perhaps you assembled it wrong? I'd give their cs a call before you go through the hassle of returning it. Their cs reps are phenomenal at problem solving over the phone! I have had all the other brands you mentioned and my Dyson beats them hand over fist in performance!

Well after I started this post on 12 Jan 15 I think you may see what I have been saying NOW ? It has some of the highest reviews I ever saw for a product so it seems that I am not alone in my evaluation.

I had the upright Dyson Animal and almost to the DAY the warranty expired, the "clutch" went out on it. Did not buy it from the Q.... tried to reason with the company because this should not have happened to a $600 machine!! They would be happy to fix it if I shipped it to them (at my expense~!)....

So I took it to a local repair that I'd been happy with for years (where we used to live). They repaired the clutch for $170 and it broke again a year or so later! BTW, when I went into this repair shop the owner showed me how many Dysons he had waiting for repair... there had to be 50 standing in a line! I'm not kidding, he told me it was one of the worst vacuums on the market in his opinion, which surprised me. This guy repaired all top of the line, everything, Kirby, Miele, even repaired an old Electrolux (from the 50's) which is still vacuuming ....

Never again will I buy a Dyson anything....

Our local vacuum repair shop has a big sign - Dyson sold here - we were taking to the owner. He was saying that he had to do something. His store is being over run with Dyson vacuums. People bring them in to be repaired and then never pick them up.

It is very frustrating is it not, with all the money spent today for goods and such poor performance over time. I have Dyson, had Oreck and still running. Knock wood. But, in a thought about repair shops....It may be a common thread that people bring in their items and do not return to pick them up. Not sure why that is, but, this is why many repair shops now require payment in advance. Say for instance, shoe repairs, I can not just drop off my shoes for repair with out payment. Cleaners now require payment in advance. I am certain there are others.
